From 1 June 2018, we will collect a 10% platform fee on GrabHitch rides from our driver-partners, which goes into covering our operating costs, investing in various initiatives, and product enhancements, to ultimately channel value back to you.
GrabCar driver-partners are commercial, professional drivers who have to register a business, purchase commercial insurance, convert their car to a commercial vehicle at the LTA, and then sign up in person at the Grab office.
Since GrabHitch driver-partners are everyday, non-commercial private car owners who are not driving as a profession, the sign-up process is way easier. No need for commercial vehicle conversion nor insurance, simply launch the Grab app, take a couple of photos, and submit them for verification.
GrabHitch is meant to subsidise your cost of driving i.e. mainly petrol costs, and not meant for you to make profits. That being said, you can expect to receive around S$420 a month.
Based on current carpooling regulations, non-commercial driver-partners can only complete 2 trips in a calendar day, where 1 trip is defined as the pickup location of your first rider, to your own intended destination, and may consist of multiple pickups along the way. While we appreciate your enthusiasm for carpooling, please note that 2 trips a day limit are set by LTA, regardless of which platform you use.
Your insurance may not cover if you do more than 2 trips a day in total, combined across all platforms.

COVID-19 has dealt an unprecedented blow to the tourism industry, affecting the livelihoods of millions of workers. One of them was Komsan, an assistant chef in a luxury hotel based in the Srinakarin area.
As the number of tourists at the hotel plunged, he decided to sign up as a GrabFood delivery-partner to earn an alternative income. Soon after, the hotel ceased operations.
Komsan has viewed this change through an optimistic lens, calling it the perfect opportunity for him to embark on a fresh journey after his previous job. Aside from GrabFood deliveries, he now also picks up GrabExpress jobs. It can get tiring, having to shuttle between different locations, but Komsan finds it exciting. And mostly, he’s glad to get his income back on track.
