Most map apps were built to show you roads. But it’s a little more complicated in Southeast Asia.
That’s why GrabMaps combines real‑time data from millions of bookings and orders with AI‑driven models that understand local context and route behavior to deliver hyperlocal, accurate navigation.
Today, these learnings and data are coming together in a new generation of consumer-facing GrabMaps features that we’ll be rolling out progressively across all markets.
Journey Planner is an intelligent, AI‑powered guide for your day. It understands both your schedule and what’s happening outside, from real‑time traffic to changing weather conditions.
AI‑driven predictions learn your routine, sync with your calendar and forecast ETA across modes. It suggests when to leave, compares routes and transit options and proactively reroutes you to safer alternatives (e.g. avoiding flood‑prone roads) when conditions change.
For drivers, the hardest part of a trip often isn’t the drive itself, it’s figuring out where to park, where to charge their EVs, and how much it will all cost. GrabMaps is tackling this through a set of driver‑focused features.
GrabMaps now shows nearby parking options, including availability, pricing and carpark types while you’re navigating or planning a trip.
For EV drivers across the region, finding a charging station today still feels like a hunt. They often juggle different apps to find available charging stations and compare prices. So we’ve brought all our partner EV chargers into one place so that drivers can see real-time charging availability and locations.
Every point of interest (POI) on GrabMaps now includes more details, making shared location pins far more useful.
Previously, sharing a location from GrabMaps provided minimal context, typically just a link or pin, without enough information for the other party. With Share POI in GrabMaps, every shared place becomes a rich, universal place card with live details such as photos, descriptions and even an option to book a ride straight to the location.
From a user’s point of view:
Most navigation apps still speak in the same, generic voices, which can make everyday driving feel a little monotonous. We decided to make things a little more fun and personal with Custom Voice.
With Custom Voice, you can record a short set of sample phrases and let Grab’s AI generate a navigation voice that sounds exactly like you. From then on, all your turn-by-turn directions will be delivered in your very own voice, making every trip feel uniquely yours.

COVID-19 has dealt an unprecedented blow to the tourism industry, affecting the livelihoods of millions of workers. One of them was Komsan, an assistant chef in a luxury hotel based in the Srinakarin area.
As the number of tourists at the hotel plunged, he decided to sign up as a GrabFood delivery-partner to earn an alternative income. Soon after, the hotel ceased operations.
Komsan has viewed this change through an optimistic lens, calling it the perfect opportunity for him to embark on a fresh journey after his previous job. Aside from GrabFood deliveries, he now also picks up GrabExpress jobs. It can get tiring, having to shuttle between different locations, but Komsan finds it exciting. And mostly, he’s glad to get his income back on track.
