We’ve updated our in-app speeding alerts to make it easier for our driver-partners to keep track of speed limits on the road.

Our driver navigation tool, Grab Navigation, tracks the car’s speed to detect when a driver-partner is going beyond a road’s speed limit.

The speed meter on Grab Navigation displays the car’s speed against the speed limit of the road. The meter turns red once the speed limit is breached.

We’ve now introduced a stronger nudge, for situations where driver-partners further exceed speed limits, triggered when they reach 25km/h above the limit. These alerts were designed to catch the attention of driver-partners without disrupting their driving.

An additional layer was added to send a stronger signal to those breaching the speed limit by 25km/h

In the latest version, driver-partners will see a red glow around the borders of their phone screens when they’ve exceeded the speed limit by 25km/h. It will disappear once they are back within the speed limit.

Our local teams on the ground continually maintain the accuracy and coverage of our database of road speed limits.

These speeding alerts are currently available in Singapore, some cities in Malaysia, the Philippines, and Vietnam. We are working on gathering a more comprehensive set of speed limit data across the region in order to roll this feature out in more cities.

COVID-19 has dealt an unprecedented blow to the tourism industry, affecting the livelihoods of millions of workers. One of them was Komsan, an assistant chef in a luxury hotel based in the Srinakarin area.

As the number of tourists at the hotel plunged, he decided to sign up as a GrabFood delivery-partner to earn an alternative income. Soon after, the hotel ceased operations.

Komsan has viewed this change through an optimistic lens, calling it the perfect opportunity for him to embark on a fresh journey after his previous job. Aside from GrabFood deliveries, he now also picks up GrabExpress jobs. It can get tiring, having to shuttle between different locations, but Komsan finds it exciting. And mostly, he’s glad to get his income back on track.
