Grab hosts many merchant-partners offering affordable meals, but insights from our regular surveys indicate that some consumers are unaware of this.

So earlier this year, we introduced a feature that allows users to easily discover—in one place—merchant-partners who offer affordable food items that’s within the price range of what they want to spend.

It’s win-win to connect budget-conscious consumers to the right merchant-partners. Based on early results, these consumers are more likely to place orders, while merchants benefit from increased sales.

GrabFood users now have the flexibility of customising their budget by adjusting a slider to increase or decrease the ceiling amount. Once the desired amount is set, they will see a list of merchants that offer menu options that fall within the selected price range.

Users can set their budgets by moving the slider left or right.

Available in all markets, users can access the budget-friendly page via the tile that indicates meals under a specified budget (varies in each market).

The budget-friendly tile in the Philippines, Singapore and Malaysia.

Another component that users often take into account when they’re deciding what to eat is the delivery charge. In the budget-friendly page, users can also sort merchants based on delivery fee—ranging from the lowest to the highest.

Tapping the “delivery fee” tab will sort merchants based on delivery charge—from low to high.
What’s next

We’re exploring other ways for consumers to look up merchants that are offering attractive discounts and promotions.

An option to set a price range for delivery fees is also in the pipeline.

Users can look forward to setting a budget for delivery fees.

We are also looking to build the ability to filter out merchants that provide free delivery and sort merchants according to the discounts and promotions they’re offering.

These new tools ensure that consumers would have greater control over their choices and allow them to easily access options based on what they are willing to spend.

COVID-19 has dealt an unprecedented blow to the tourism industry, affecting the livelihoods of millions of workers. One of them was Komsan, an assistant chef in a luxury hotel based in the Srinakarin area.

As the number of tourists at the hotel plunged, he decided to sign up as a GrabFood delivery-partner to earn an alternative income. Soon after, the hotel ceased operations.

Komsan has viewed this change through an optimistic lens, calling it the perfect opportunity for him to embark on a fresh journey after his previous job. Aside from GrabFood deliveries, he now also picks up GrabExpress jobs. It can get tiring, having to shuttle between different locations, but Komsan finds it exciting. And mostly, he’s glad to get his income back on track.
