Sentosa is an island resort situated off Singapore’s southern coast. From amusement parks to beach clubs, it attracts both locals and tourists in search of leisure and adventure.

The island is connected to the city by road, cable car, pedestrian boardwalk and monorail. Still, its location posed a challenge for Grab: users couldn’t always secure a ride when they needed one.

So we’ve teamed up with Sentosa Development Corporation to enhance connectivity to and from Sentosa island.

Sentosa’s proximity to popular malls often means there is higher ride demand in nearby areas. To better address this, we have introduced alternative solutions like free shuttle bus services, which conveniently transports users to nearby transport hubs.

This offers guests the flexibility to continue their journeys via public transport or book a Grab ride from locations with greater driver availability. The three-year partnership with Sentosa is part of our ongoing efforts to enhance the commuting experience for Grab users throughout Singapore

Free shuttle service from Sentosa to Harbourfront

To help passengers get home more quickly, we’re offering shuttle buses that operate from Sentosa to HarbourFront Bus Interchange, a well connected bus station outside the island. This service ferries passengers to a more accessible area with additional transport options and increased availability of Grab rides.

The shuttle service by Grab will operate from Sentosa’s Beach Station (Berth 12, 13) to HarbourFront Bus Interchange, at the following times:

  • Fridays to Sundays: 6:00 PM – 9:00 PM at 10-minute intervals
  • Public holidays andLong weekends:
    • 3:00 PM – 6:00 PM at 10-minute intervals
    • 6:00 PM – 9:00 PM at 5-minute intervals
Updated pickup and drop-off points

We’ve also made it easier for those who prefer to book a ride directly from Sentosa. We understand that finding the correct pickup point can be challenging, as roads and landmarks frequently change when new attractions are added to the island. This results in the lack of specific addresses or nearby Points of Interests (POIs) for passengers booking a ride.

This means users sometimes have to walk further to reach a designated pickup or drop-off point. To address this, we looked into Grab data and gathered fresh insights from users to update our list of pickup and drop-off locations.

Today, the new POIs on the Grab app reflect the most popular and accessible spots on the island. These include:

  • Amara Sanctuary Sentosa
  • Beach Station (near Cheers)
  • Imbiah Lookout, Taxi Stand
  • The Outpost Hotel Sentosa
  • Palawan Beach, FOC Sentosa
  • Quayside Isle
  • Sentosa Cove, Arrival Plaza
  • Sentosa Golf Club, Golfer’s Terrace
  • Siloso Point, Cable Car Station
  • Tanjong Beach Club

For users who are unfamiliar with Sentosa, the Grab app offers photo and text directions to guide them to the nearest pickup points.

In-app directions to pickup points to help users find their way.

Prominent signages are also in place to ensure users won’t miss the pickup and drop-off points.

We've made it easier for passengers to spot the pickup and drop-off points.

All these efforts ensure users can easily identify the right pickup and drop-off points, and passengers and driver-partners will not have trouble finding each other.

We hope that initiatives like the shuttle service and updated pickup and drop-off points will enhance the Grab experience for our users.

COVID-19 has dealt an unprecedented blow to the tourism industry, affecting the livelihoods of millions of workers. One of them was Komsan, an assistant chef in a luxury hotel based in the Srinakarin area.

As the number of tourists at the hotel plunged, he decided to sign up as a GrabFood delivery-partner to earn an alternative income. Soon after, the hotel ceased operations.

Komsan has viewed this change through an optimistic lens, calling it the perfect opportunity for him to embark on a fresh journey after his previous job. Aside from GrabFood deliveries, he now also picks up GrabExpress jobs. It can get tiring, having to shuttle between different locations, but Komsan finds it exciting. And mostly, he’s glad to get his income back on track.
