In Southeast Asia’s busy, vibrant cities, getting around quickly and without hassle is everything. We understand that our customers value this, so we’ve built features to make booking a ride faster and easier.

Some features are lesser-known but not any less important.

Here are five key features to unlock a more convenient Grab experience.

Add the Grab widget

Book a ride directly from your phone’s home screen in just three taps. Add the Grab widget to your home screen and save your most-frequented locations such as your home, office, or that cool neighbourhood bar that you love.

For Android users ➡️

  1. Tap and hold the home screen
  2. Go to the widget menu
  3. Choose the Grab widget and add it to your home screen

⬅️ For iOS users

  1. Tap and hold the home screen
  2. Tap the “+” sign on the upper left-hand corner
  3. Type “Grab” in the search bar
  4. Choose the Grab widget and add it to your home screen

To set up your saved locations in the widget, just click on the icons and fill in the details.

2. Shortcut to access Grab’s services
Press and hold the app to access the various services directly.

Did you know that you can simply tap and hold the Grab icon to access your favourite services? You can order food, send money, scan to pay, and book a ride with this shortcut—a handy feature to get to the page you need with little navigation.

3. Switch to Business Profile when you travel for work

Going to a work meeting or getting around with Grab on a work trip? Use your Business Profile to manage work expenses separately from your personal ones. You’ll first need to create one with your work email. To do so, tap on “Account” under the home screen. Then head over to “Business Centre” and follow the instructions to complete setting up a business profile.

(Watch: Steps to to set up your Business Profile)

Book your ride and change the tag to “Business” on the booking screen. Once the transaction is complete, an e-receipt will be sent to your work email. And if you’ve integrated your profile into your company’s expense system (Concur / Chrome River / Expensify), your trip details and receipt will be automatically uploaded. Making transport claims has never been easier.

4. Share your live location with drivers
Share your location with drivers to help them find you sooner.

Once a driver-partner accepts a ride, our in-app maps will guide them to the pickup point selected by the passenger. You can share your live location so our driver-partners know exactly where you are. This ensures smoother and quicker pickups especially when you’re booking a ride at large venues with multiple pickup points. We rolled this out following feedback that passengers occasionally end up waiting at a different pick-up point or wander off while waiting for their ride.

5. Guide to pickup points
This is especially useful when you're at large venues with multiple pickup points.

Our Venues feature was introduced to guide people to the right pickup points by offering photo and text directions. Once you’ve chosen your pickup point, hit the image which pops up on the map to open the guide. Scroll through the text and image directions to make your way to the pickup point without getting lost.

More improvements to come

These features were designed not just for convenience, but to help users reclaim time to do more of the activities they enjoy.

More nifty Grab features are in the works, so stay tuned for more tips and tricks.

COVID-19 has dealt an unprecedented blow to the tourism industry, affecting the livelihoods of millions of workers. One of them was Komsan, an assistant chef in a luxury hotel based in the Srinakarin area.

As the number of tourists at the hotel plunged, he decided to sign up as a GrabFood delivery-partner to earn an alternative income. Soon after, the hotel ceased operations.

Komsan has viewed this change through an optimistic lens, calling it the perfect opportunity for him to embark on a fresh journey after his previous job. Aside from GrabFood deliveries, he now also picks up GrabExpress jobs. It can get tiring, having to shuttle between different locations, but Komsan finds it exciting. And mostly, he’s glad to get his income back on track.
