We have been working hard to help our impacted GrabFood delivery-partners over the last 2 months to minimise the impact the PMD ban on footpaths has had on their livelihoods. As part of our efforts to support our community, it is important that we smoothen out the process as our delivery-partners switch to other modes of transportation in the safest and most efficient manner possible. 

Since the announcement, we’ve rolled out a number of initiatives aimed at helping our delivery-partners tide over this transition period. Here’s an overview of initiatives rolled out:

  • Announcement of PMD ban, effective 5/11/2019


5/11/2019

  • Accelerated process to help impacted delivery-partners (DAX) change vehicle type to continue earning on our platform
  • Conducted survey to impacted DAX to understand their immediate needs

8/11/2019

  • Announcement of e-Scooter Trade-in Grant
    (eTG) for impacted DAX

    • Grab invested over $2 million into the eTG scheme 
    • We also secured preferred rates for alternative vehicle types (e-bikes, bicycles and motorcycles) with 5 retailers

By 12/11/2019

  • Conducted over 10 DAX engagement sessions to help them better understand what programs, initiatives are in place to help them
  • Partnered with NTUC and Workforce Singapore to provide support to affected delivery-partners who are interested in a career switch under the Adapt and Grow initiative

15/11/2019

  • eTG application opened. 
    • As of 8 January 2020, more that 65% of eligible GrabFood delivery-partners for eTG have signed up for the scheme. 
    • Out of which:
      • >90% of applicants received approval for the grant.
      • 23% of applicants who applied have completed their claims.
  • Announced a one-time bonus of S$100 to all eligible PMD delivery-partners once they have changed their vehicle type successfully and completed 40 food deliveries within two weeks after the switch
  • Announced partnership with NTUC
    , which include financial relief to DAX who are existing NTUC union members and new sign-ups, as well as access to E-scooter Delivery Riders Training and Career Support Programme


3/12/2019

  • Grab onboarded 2 more retailers – LifeLine and Decathlon, which offer Personal Mobility Aids (PMA) and bicycles with no upfront cost for DAX

11/12/2019

  • Announced a series of safety initiatives
    targeted at DAX, which included:

    • “Safe Riding on Pedal and Power-Assisted Bicycle (PABs)” (SRPP) course conducted by GrabFood as part of the Delivery Rider Kit training programme, in partnership with NTUC’s U FSE, NTUC’s e2i, NTUC LearningHub, SkillsFuture Singapore and WorkForce Singapore
    • Eligible GrabFood partners can also receive a free Lumos smart helmets for enhanced safety
    • As of 8 January 2020, over 250 GrabFood delivery partners have signed up for the Delivery Rider Kit training programme for sessions conducted in Jan-Feb 2020. 
  • Grab also secured a deadline extension for DAX to submit supporting claim documents for the eTG to 31 March 2020

  • Launched our partnership with Mongol Trading and introduced no upfront-cost Scheme for PABs


2/1/2020

  • Grab secured an additional 2-week extension of the eTG application deadline to 14 January 2020, for DAX to decide if they would like to apply for the scheme
