PETALING JAYA, 30 September 2026: Grab Malaysia has introduced Kid-Friendly Rides (Beta), a dedicated ride-hailing service feature for families with children aged four to 12 years, in accordance with Malaysian Institute of Road Safety Research’s (MIROS) safety guidelines. The service allows families to choose a ride on Standard 6-seaters offering one dedicated booster seat, operated by driver-partners trained to manage the use of child seats – with a limited fleet equipped with booster seats provided by Koopers.

Part of Grab’s commitment towards building a safer platform for millions of Malaysians, the new ride feature gives families greater peace of mind when travelling with young children by addressing the logistical hassle of carrying bulky car seats.

“Families should be able to travel with their children with greater peace of mind, without managing the hassle of carrying heavy and cumbersome child seats. With Kid-Friendly Rides (Beta), we hope to make it easier for families to travel light by offering dedicated booster seats. This reflects a commitment we share with the Ministry of Transport, with MIROS, and with partners like Koopers, to ensure that when families travel, they travel safely, and that children are never an afterthought on the road” said Rashid Shukor, Executive Director, Grab Malaysia.

Although child restraint systems (CRS) have been mandatory in Malaysia since 1 January 2020, yet adoption remains low. MIROS observational research emphasises that raising awareness of its importance, and translating that awareness into consistent action, remains key to protecting young passengers.

“Protecting children on the road is a shared responsibility. Research has found that booster seats reduce injury risk by 45% for children aged four to eight compared with seat belts alone. MIROS’s CRS guidelines emphasise selecting a suitable restraint for the child’s size and installing it correctly. We welcome this initiative to make child restraints more accessible to families using ride-hailing services and encourage their correct use on every journey,” said Associate Professor Ir. Ts. Dr. Siti Zaharah Binti Ishak, Director-General, MIROS.

Booking A Kid-Friendly Rides (Beta) Ride on Your Grab App

This feature is currently only available via Advance Booking for airport rides (to and from KLIA 1/KLIA 2), rollout will continue in progressive phases across the wider Klang Valley, and subsequently across Penang and Johor Bahru.

Families can access Kid-Friendly Rides (Beta) through the Grab app by tapping “Car” and clicking the ‘Advance Booking’ tile, then scheduling the preferred pick up time. After entering the pick up or drop off location to or from the airport, they can select the feature under Standard 6-Seater or Grab EV Exec.

On Standard 6-Seater rides, each booking provides one booster seat for a RM10 add-on fee, accommodating children aged four to 12. Meanwhile, Koopers Boost Fix booster seats are offered on Grab EV Exec rides as a free value-added feature.

The launch is part of Grab’s wider safety ecosystem, which includes features such as AudioProtect and Women-Only Rides (Beta). Through these initiatives, Grab continues to strengthen safety across its platform, with the aim to make end-to-end safety more accessible for every user.
