MyTeksi offers RM5 rides all over Penang for a month

PENANG, 4 March2015 – MyTeksi is starting a RM5 all-in promo in Penang as a bid to invite Penangites to change their perception of taxi drivers.

MyTeksi wants to solve a real problem of the taxi industry in Penang and revamp their image. In conjunction with the start of this promotion, MyTeksi drivers will gather as an act of public appeal to encourage Penangites to change public perception of taxis.

“We feel that there is a stigma against taxi drivers, Penangites and tourists often have bad perception towards taxi drivers and they view us as unhelpful and our rates are unreasonably high, these are due to a small number of bad apples who overcharge, many taxis adhere to a standard rate especially MyTeksi drivers who follow the rate stated in the app.” said Kishnan Perumal, taxi driver.

“Last month, the Penang CM mentioned that taxi drivers shouldn’t be charging any unreasonable amount and leave a good first impression for tourists. In support of the CM’s statement, we’re continuously taking steps to address this problem by maintaining the service level of our platform. We have solved the problem of haggling by implementing a standard fare and would like to invite Penangites to try us out,” said Jaygan Fu, General Manager of MyTeksi Sdn. Bhd.

The promotion starts on March 4th , and runs until the end of month.

How MyTeksi app works

Consumers first need to download the app, which is available for free on iOS devices, Android, Windows and selected BlackBerry smartphones.

When the application is launched, MyTeksi automatically detects the commuter’s current location using the smartphone’s in-built GPS (Global Positioning System). The app will show the number of available taxis within a certain radius.

After the commuter selects his/her destination, the booking request is sent to taxi drivers within the radius so they can bid for the job. The taxi driver nearest to the commuter gets the job.

Within a minute, the commuter receives a booking confirmation coupled with
crucial information about the ETA, taxi number, and the driver’s contact details. The commuter can also track the real-time location of the booked taxi.
