GRABCAR HEADS UP NORTH TO PENANG

Grab (formerly known as MyTeksi), Southeast Asia’s leading ride hailing app is now extending GrabCar to Penang!

Penang Tourist and Travelers Celebrate with Fantastic Free Airport Rides

Following the recent launch of GrabCar in Johor Bahru, Grab (formerly known as MyTeksi), Southeast Asia’s leading ride hailing app is now extending GrabCar to Penang! Effective May 25, 2016, commuters and passengers in Penang can consider the private hire car hailing service as an alternative mode of transportation.

Since the introduction of GrabCar in Klang Valley in 2014, GrabCar, which is available on the Grab App has risen to be one of the preferred alternative mode of transportation especially during peak hours in high traffic in the Klang Valley region.

Present in Penang to share the announcement was Jaygan Fu, Country Manager of Grab Malaysia. “The Pearl of the Orient is internationally known as must-visit tourist destination. Coupled with the economic opportunities in the northern region in both Penang and Kulim, we see this as an opportunity for us to cater and provide a service to those who are already familiar with ride hailing apps, elaborated Fu.

Fu also went on to share GrabCar not only leverages on the same safety aspects as MyTeksi but also has added features.

Similar to MyTeksi:

  • Drivers are required to go through stringent background checks, (however, any cars beyond six years old must be reviewed),
  • Both drivers and passengers have access to the 24-7 customer service
  • Drivers can connect to the nearest police station in the event of an emergency via the PDRM button on the driver’s app, and
  • Passengers can share their ride via social media platforms with their friends and family so they can keep track of their whereabouts.

“In addition, GrabCar also recently introduced an insurance policy that covers both passengers and drivers and to top it off, our top performing female drivers are part of a pilot in-car CCTV initiative to enhance the safety of both passengers and drivers,” said Fu.

Other features distinct to GrabCar are that it operates based on a fixed-fare and passengers can choose to pay either via cash or credit/debit card. “This means regardless of traffic conditions, passengers will know their fares up-front and have the convenience of doing away with the cumbersomeness of rummaging for cash to pay for the ride,” he further added.

Grab with its array of transport options has a social mission to not only provide safe and reliable alternative options of transportation, but with the equal assurance of speed, a certainty of a ride and affordable too. In addition to that, GrabCar is not just viewed as a transportation option, but is now fast becoming a viable source of income for many who prefer the comfort, convenience and flexibility of not being in a desk-bound job but yet still able to earn a decent income.

Free Airport Promo*

In line with the excitement of expanding to Penang, Fu also took the opportunity to announce the Free Airport Promo*. From May 25 till June 7, 2016, travellers can enjoy up to two free* GrabCar rides to or from the airport and George Town city centre.

The Free Airport Promo* is an extension of the newly revised rates (from RM90 to RM65) to and from KLIA/KLIA2 and is part of Grab’s ongoing commitment to provide convenient travel to commuters. “We are focused look forward to be able to serve the travellers and commuters in Penang and hope that we can contribute to making the transportation system here more accessible and convenient,” said Fu.
