GrabInsure Launches Motor Insurance Designed to Make Insurance More Affordable and Accessible for Private-Hire Vehicle Drivers
Developed from the ground up to address the unique needs of PHV drivers, the product is the first-of-its-kind that leverages historical insights from the Grab platform to deliver personalised pricing based on a driver-partner’s track record
19 March 2026, Singapore – GrabInsure, the insurance arm of Grab, has launched a Motor Insurance (1) product that is designed to make vehicle insurance more affordable and accessible for private-hire vehicle (PHV) drivers in Singapore. Developed from the ground up to address the unique needs of PHV drivers, the product is the first-of-its-kind that leverages historical insights from the Grab platform to deliver personalised pricing based on a driver-partner’s track record, while providing greater payment flexibility and round-the-clock emergency assistance.
“Private-hire drivers have different needs from traditional motorists as they rely on their vehicles as their source of livelihood, and face seasonal fluctuations in earnings,” said Iwan Juwono, Head of GrabInsure.

By leveraging insights on a driver’s track record on Grab, we can offer more competitive pricing to reward safer driving and better service. Redesigning motor insurance for private-hire vehicle drivers
To better meet the needs of Grab’s driver-partners, who highlighted credit-free access, instalment payment options, and 24/7 emergency assistance as essential features for their preferred motor insurance, GrabInsure developed its product based on three core pillars of accessibility. This directly addresses the unique cashflow challenges faced by platform workers, and makes motor insurance more accessible to Grab’s driver-partners.
The three pillars are:
- Credit-Free Accessibility: In a move toward greater financial inclusion, drivers can now pay for their insurance premiums directly through their Grab Driver App’s Wallet. This eliminates the need for a credit card, ensuring that all driver-partners – regardless of their banking history – can secure comprehensive motor insurance coverage to protect their livelihoods.
- Cashflow-Friendly Instalments: To ease the financial burden of paying annual insurance premiums upfront, GrabInsure offers flexible instalment plans. Drivers can convert premiums into more manageable micro-payments, making insurance an affordable operational cost rather than a major capital expense.
- Performance-Linked Premiums: GrabInsure offers personalised pricing by leveraging historical driving insights from the Grab platform. By recognising the safety records of active partners, and rewarding them for safer driving and excellent service, the product is able to extend access to more competitive premium rates based on their proven track records.

Building robust financial safety nets for Grab’s partner community
GrabInsure also offers products like the Earnings Protection Policy, one of its most widely adopted offerings, designed around driver-partners’ real, day-to-day experiences on the road. Shaped by partner feedback, the policy provides additional protection across three key areas, on top of the complimentary coverage already extended to Grab driver-partners:
- Compassionate Leave: Financial support during family tragedies to allow drivers time to grieve without sacrificing their earnings.
- Booking Cancellations: Compensation for the time and fuel lost due to late passenger cancellations or no-shows, on top of the existing cancellation fee driver-partners receive.
- Vomit Cover: Rapid reimbursement for downtime required for vehicle cleaning when a vehicle is soiled by a passenger, on top of the existing claims driver-partners can claim.
