1. Nasi Ganja Yong Suan - Jalan Yong Kalsom

Nasi Ganja Ayam is a simple meal of white rice with fried chicken, curry and salted egg but it is super addictive. Hence, the nickname ‘ganja’ given to this humble rice meal from Nasi Ganja Yong Suan. This is a must-order menu item!

The queue is always long here as the kitchen staff work non-stop during serving hours. With GrabFood, skip the queue and have them delivered to you instead!

2. Restoran Choong Kee Pokok Besar - Taman Hoover

If you want to survive in the food business in Ipoh, the food has to be better than just good. It has to be great because the locals have extremely high standards, even for hawker food. Restoran Choong Kee Pokok Besar didn’t even have a roof when it first started. Business flourished because of the food they serve is great.

This stall is famed for its deep fried fish paste. Everything fried here is yummy. We recommend the Fried Turnip, Fish Paste, Fu Pei, and Wan Tan.

3. Warteg Ipoh

Warteg Ipoh serves Indonesian fare which has become a favourite with the locals. It has an exhaustive menu, so if you don’t know where to start, just go for its Extra Crispy Deep Fried Chicken Coated with Egg and Flour. This meal is served with rice and super crunchy chicken topped with sambal chilli, which can be quite potent.

If you don’t fancy something too crunchy, you may opt for the Deep Fried Chicken Coated with Turmeric Powder instead.

4. Restoran Nasi Ayam Pak Kong (Non-Halal)

Restoran Nasi Ayam Pak Kong has been around for more than half a century, which is a testament to their superior chicken rice offerings. To savour the chicken rice from this outlet, you may have to endure the long queue. Fret not, you can find this local favourite on GrabFood!

You can order Pak Kong Signature Chicken Rice which comes with steamed chicken or the Pak Kong Signature Roasted Chicken Rice. Both are served with char siew and plain chicken soup. The rice must have been cooked with chicken fat as it is so flavourful.

5. Restoran Tuck Kee

Here’s another half-a-century-old restaurant in Ipoh, where you can’t resist the Hokkien Fried Dai Loke Mian and Hokkien Fried Mee Hoon. Restoran Tuck Kee‘s Hokkien Fried Dai Loke Mian (big fat springy noodle) is such a delight with the special dark sweet and tangy sauce, and with the ‘wok hei’ effect. The fat noodle is really satisfying and can easily fill you up!

If fat noodle is not your thing, try the mee hoon version, braised in the same sauce that gives a different sensation. Both are equally delicious. Most importantly, they’re also so affordable.
