Updates on Singapore DORSCON level from Yellow to Green (How does this affect you as a PHV Driver)

One of the most recent developments Singapore has made in view of improvement in COVID-19 situation is the lowering of the DORSCON level from Yellow to Green from 13 February 2023. Several COVID-19 measures have been eased, including the requirement to wear masks on public transport and in indoor healthcare and residential care settings.

More people are also beginning to return to their physical workplaces, with nearly half of more than 1,000 Singaporeans surveyed reported that they have resumed a five-day work week in the office.

What are the eased measures?

  1. Mask Wearing
Mask wearing on public transport, indoor healthcare and residential care settings will no longer be required.

As mask-wearing is an effective way to minimise the risk of infectious diseases, drivers and passengers are still encouraged to wear masks should they be feeling unwell with symptoms of COVID-19 or respiratory infections.

    2. Stepping Down Border Measures

Non-fully vaccinated travellers entering Singapore will no longer be required to show proof of a negative pre-departure test. Non-fully vaccinated short term visitors will no longer be required to purchase COVID-19 travel insurance.

As the tourism sector recovers, Singapore’s 2023 visitor arrivals are expected to double to over 12m, with full recovery expected by 2024. The ease in travel restrictions is expected to result in an increase in travel for both international and domestic travellers, with many people eager to hit the road and explore new places.

Here’s what you can do

As a PHV driver, these changes can have a significant impact on your job. With many of the workforce returning to their workplace and people becoming more comfortable with sharing rides, there may be an increase in demand for your services. Here’s what you can do to capitalise on these relaxed measures!

  • Rent a 6-seater car: Given the potential increase in demand for 6-seater rides to accommodate bigger group sizes, why not rent or switch to a 6-seater friendly car from GrabRentals? Popular models include Toyota Sienta Hybrid, Toyota Prius and more! You’ll also get to enjoy increased fares and earnings with GrabCar6 rides.
  • Opt for GrabShare Beta: More than 80% of the local population have achieved minimum protection and many have recovered from the first wave of COVID-19 infections. Together with most of the workforce returning to their workplace, people are likely to be more to share rides with others which will help to increase your income! Komsan Chiyadis

GrabFood delivery-partner, Thailand

COVID-19 has dealt an unprecedented blow to the tourism industry, affecting the livelihoods of millions of workers. One of them was Komsan, an assistant chef in a luxury hotel based in the Srinakarin area.

As the number of tourists at the hotel plunged, he decided to sign up as a GrabFood delivery-partner to earn an alternative income. Soon after, the hotel ceased operations.

Komsan has viewed this change through an optimistic lens, calling it the perfect opportunity for him to embark on a fresh journey after his previous job. Aside from GrabFood deliveries, he now also picks up GrabExpress jobs. It can get tiring, having to shuttle between different locations, but Komsan finds it exciting. And mostly, he’s glad to get his income back on track.
