Grab and Lippo Group announce strategic partnership in Indonesia

  • Partnership of leading Southeast Asia companies to drive Lippo Group’s e-commerce business, leveraging Grab’s transport and delivery expertise
  • GrabBike exceeds 50 per cent market share in motorcycle taxi business in March 2016, three quarters ahead of target of end-2016
  • GrabCar grows 30 per cent last month in Indonesia

Jakarta, Indonesia – 21 March 2016 – Indonesian conglomerate Lippo Group and Singapore-based Grab, Southeast Asia’s leading ride-hailing app, today announced a strategic partnership in Indonesia. The partnership underlines Lippo Group’s continued focus on their online businesses, including fast-growing e-commerce site MatahariMall. Grab will offer its transport and deliveries expertise to further enhance MatahariMall’s online-to-offline experience.

Grab is the leading ride-hailing platform in Indonesia. The GrabCar business exceeded 50 per cent of the private car market share in Indonesia by end-2015 and continues to demonstrate strong growth. The GrabCar business in Indonesia grew 30 per cent last month, post Grab’s rebrand announcement in February 2016.

The GrabBike business beat all targets and exceeded 50 per cent of the motorcycle taxi market share in Indonesia this month, three quarters ahead of the initial target of end-2016. Since February 2016, the GrabBike business has grown 20 per cent week on week.
