PETALING JAYA, 22 Dec 2025: Grab Malaysia continues to celebrate its differently-abled partners in conjunction with International Day of Persons with Disabilities (PWD) by hosting its second PWD Carnival. This year marks a significant milestone as the platform now empowers over 5,000 individuals with disabilities, to earn an income in Malaysia.
This achievement solidifies Grab Malaysia’s position as having developed one of the most robust PWD programmes in the region.
“We are deeply thankful for the PWD community’s trust in Grab Malaysia as a platform for them to earn a livelihood. We recognise that while we have achieved a meaningful milestone in providing opportunity for our partners, there is always more work to be done. We are always listening to our community and adapting our platform based on your feedback. We remain committed to listening, improving inclusivity, and enabling access to opportunities for all,” said Rashid Shukor, Director of Country Operations & Mobility at Grab Malaysia.
With over 5,000 active PWD partners, Grab Malaysia has the largest PWD representation across the region. This growth aligns with Grab’s larger inclusivity goal to onboard 300,000 women and PWD driver-partners across Southeast Asia by 2030.
Welcoming new PWD driver-partners
Grab Malaysia is unique in its efforts to work with the government to help PWD driver-partners obtain their Public Service Vehicle (PSV) licences, opening up new earning opportunities.
The GrabAccess programme, launched in 2018, has been key to this success. Through advisory partnerships with the Persatuan Pemandu E-Hailing OKU Fizikal Malaysia (PPEOFM) and the Malaysian Federation of the Deaf (MFD), GrabAccess offers support like licence subsidies, zero commissions, and perks like free petrol vouchers, insurance, and maintenance for all PWD driver-partners.
Tech-driven Solutions for All
Grab Malaysia is committed to leverage technology to provide solutions and accessibility that make the platform easier for everyone.
The app alerts passengers when their driver-partner is PWD right before pick-up, facilitating smoother interactions from the start. To aid communication, Grab Malaysia also provides flipcards in cars for passengers riding with deaf or hard-of-hearing driver-partners. In addition, the newly launched GrabAssist provides rides for PWDs, seniors, and those needing extra mobility assistance, ensuring inclusive access for passengers.
Grab Malaysia’s PWD Carnival 2025 held at the Grab Driver Centre in Petaling Jaya on 20 December 2025 was attended by almost 200 PWD driver- and delivery-partners and their families, highlighting the company’s commitment towards inclusive community building.
“We hoped to build a platform to improve livelihoods. But ultimately, it was our PWD community that spotted the opportunity for themselves; they’re the ones who showed us what was possible, and still do every day. All we hope for is to do more to help them along the way, even in little ways. We’re so proud of their passion to serve, and humbled by their strength in overcoming challenges. We hope to keep learning from them, and to do better for our community,” added Rashid
