40 Best Things To Do In Krabi: Islands, Caves, Waterfalls and Temples

Krabi is the part of the Andaman coast that looks the way people imagine Thailand before they arrive: limestone towers standing straight out of emerald water, beaches you can only reach by longtail boat, hot springs in the forest and a golden pagoda on a hill. The catch is that it is spread out. The islands are a boat ride away, the waterfalls are inland and the temples are scattered between them, so without a plan you spend the trip in transit. Here are 40 things to do in Krabi, in one comprehensive list, with addresses, opening hours and phone numbers, plus when to visit and how to travel between them.

Getting around is the part worth sorting out first. GrabCar, GrabVan and GrabBike run across Krabi, while GrabRent lets you book a car with a driver by the hour from 500 Baht for 2 hours. Download the Grab app before you travel.

When Is the Best Time to Visit Krabi?

November to April is the season everyone comes for: cooler air, clear skies and water calm enough for island trips and snorkelling. January to March is the best of it, with flat seas and almost no rain. April is hotter but still good. From May to October the monsoon brings rain and swell, which closes some islands and makes boat days unreliable, though hotels and tours drop their prices accordingly. If you travel in the low season, check the forecast before booking anything that floats.

How to Get to Krabi

  • By air

One to one and a half hours from Bangkok, and the only sensible option if your time is limited.

  • By car

Nine to ten hours from Bangkok. Worth it only if the drive south is part of the trip.

  • By bus

Eleven to twelve hours from the Southern Bus Terminal, usually overnight, and the cheapest way down.

  • By train

There is no train station in Krabi itself, so trains run to nearby provinces and you can continue by road.
