Have you met our active referrers?

Sunny, I’m in insurance.
Hitching since Jan 2017.
How did you hear about GrabHitch?
My friend knows I don’t like to drive alone so he recommended GrabHitch to me.

Why do you GrabHitch?
Cost recovery is secondary for me. I GrabHitch mainly to meet people and chit chat with them. I’ve actually learnt a lot hitching those from the younger generation.

An interesting experience while GrabHitching?
I didn’t realise so many youngsters were concerned about the future. That was definitely an eye-opener for me. I also have a ‘regular hitcher’ who lives near me. She hitches everyday instead of taking the mrt, simply because she loves to sleep in – I find that extremely amusing.

In one year I see GrabHitch…
with more and more people trying Hitch!

How did you manage to introduce some many friends to GrabHitch?
As I’m in the sales field, I meet many clients who drive. So I always just share my referral code with them along with the link to the blogpost on the GrabHitch DRD program. It’s fast and simple!

What has the experience sharing about GrabHitch to your friends been like?
Some were concerned about picking up strangers who may end up not showing up; so I advised them to always text the rider before setting off to pick them up.

How did you hear about GrabHitch?
A colleague’s husband who happened to be a GrabHitch driver told me about it.

How often do you GrabHitch?
It depends on my work schedule. When my timing is flexible I often hitch during the mornings to work. When travelling to town with my family on weekends, I usually just open the app before I leave and see if there’s anyone along the way.

Why do you GrabHitch?
It’s a easy way for me to recover my driving costs and widen my network!

An interesting experience while GrabHitching?
Met someone from the same NS unit as me (but a few batches after) so we had fun swapping our NS stories and comparing our experiences.

In one year I see GrabHitch…
as something that I’ll still likely be doing.

How did you manage to introduce some many friends to GrabHitch?
When we gather for dinner I shared my hitching experience. When I want to reach a wider social circle, I sometimes whatsapp my group chats and tell my friends about my referral code.

What has the experience sharing about GrabHitch to your friends been like?
A lot of my friends initially didn’t understand how the GrabHitch concept works. But once I shared that you don’t need to register a business company or buy commercial insurance and that sign up is completely from the phone, they were eager to find out more.

Kenneth, I’m an engineer.

Faris, I’m a financial analyst.

How did you hear about GrabHitch?
My girlfriend takes Grab very often and she was sharing about GrabHitch to me. As I drive, I decided to try giving hitch!

Why do you GrabHitch?
There’s marginal cost/effort needed in order to cover my parking costs. That was the original reason I started hitching. But now, I find it an amazing social tool. I love the idea of bringing the community together through an initiative like this.

An interesting experience while GrabHitching?
In my area, I end up hitching a lot of expats. It’s fascinating to hear about where they’re from and what they’re doing in Singapore. I get to understand a different perspective on how they live their life and what they think about the hitching culture. They prefer taking hitch instead of a normal taxi because they love the social aspect of it!

In one year I see GrabHitch…
still around – bigger and better!

How did you manage to introduce some many friends to GrabHitch?
I’m not the sort of person who will spam deals on Facebook so I usually share it with friends I know who drive when we meet up for meals / parties.

What has the experience sharing about GrabHitch to your friends been like?
The DRD program is essentially free money for me AND my friend! So why not? I think this concept resonates with many around the 20-30 year old age group who want to support social community initiatives so its easy to introduce hitch to my friends. I had some friends who were concerned about receiving / looking for change to give to riders but once they found out that GrabPay was possible they were keen to give it a go.

How did you hear about GrabHitch?
I saw an ad in the Business Times and decided to signup and give GrabHitch a try!

How often do you GrabHitch?
I hitch almost every weekday and sometimes on the weekend. I often get a suitable hitch without much of a detour.

Why do you GrabHitch?
For practical reasons – to defray my driving expenses. But it’s also interesting to meet people from all walks of life.

An interesting experience while GrabHitching?
A rider bought a drink for me while she was waiting for me to arrive. I thought that was quite sweet of her. I’ve also hitched my daughter’s teacher before!

In one year I see GrabHitch…
monopolizing the social carpooling market.

How did you manage to introduce so many friends to GrabHitch?
I normally share details about my rides when I meet up with my friends at social gatherings and then text them details on how to sign up after. It is easy because signup is done directly from the app.

What has the experience sharing about GrabHitch to your friends been like?
Some of them were initially concerned about GrabHitch being seen as moonlighting. But after I explained the social carpooling concept they decided to give it a go!

YY, I’m in logistics.

COVID-19 has dealt an unprecedented blow to the tourism industry, affecting the livelihoods of millions of workers. One of them was Komsan, an assistant chef in a luxury hotel based in the Srinakarin area.

As the number of tourists at the hotel plunged, he decided to sign up as a GrabFood delivery-partner to earn an alternative income. Soon after, the hotel ceased operations.

Komsan has viewed this change through an optimistic lens, calling it the perfect opportunity for him to embark on a fresh journey after his previous job. Aside from GrabFood deliveries, he now also picks up GrabExpress jobs. It can get tiring, having to shuttle between different locations, but Komsan finds it exciting. And mostly, he’s glad to get his income back on track.
