PETRONAS Dagangan Berhad and Grab Malaysia Sign Strategic Partnership

  • A first of its kind partnership between multinational oil & gas company and a ride hailing service
  • Partnership to see the launch of exclusive loyalty programme, Kad Mesra Grab
  • GrabCar Drivers enjoy exclusive benefits and rewards

Kuala Lumpur, 28 March 2017 – PETRONAS Dagangan Berhad (PDB) and Grab Malaysia (Grab) today signed a first of its kind long term strategic partnership, between the homegrown ride hailing service and the country’s leading oil and gas company to offer a rewarding experience for GrabCar drivers.

Through this partnership, both PDB and Grab have co-invested in this exclusive loyalty programme, the Kad Mesra Grab, for thousands of GrabCar drivers to enjoy an ultimate fuel savings coupled with amazing lubricant deals, fantastic Kedai Mesra promotions as well as special reward points for all purchases at PETRONAS stations nationwide.

For PDB, the collaboration with Southeast Asia’s leading ride hailing and multiservice platform is a perfect partnership of two industry leaders to jointly boost consumer offerings and uplift the transportation industry in the country. This initiative is also part of Grab’s ongoing initiatives to recognise and reward their loyal GrabCar drivers for their unwavering commitment and efforts to out-serve their passengers.

Head Retail Business Division of PDB, Aadrin Azly, said, “We are very excited about this collaboration as it brings together two like-minded organisations whose businesses emphasise on pushing the boundaries to enhance customer experience in the transportation industry. Grab offers tremendous growth opportunities for PDB, leveraging on its wide network of drivers that will further strengthen our position as the leading supplier of fuel and lubricant in Malaysia.”

“Vice versa, our offering of the Kad Mesra Grab, exclusively for GrabCar drivers will definitely give them greater savings and rewards with every litre of fuel from PETRONAS. What’s more, PETRONAS Primax fuels and Syntium lubricants provide superior efficiency and optimum performance to Grab drivers, as proven by the MERCEDES AMG PETRONAS Formula One teams’ three time win. Ultimately, it is a win-win partnership, which our consumers stand to benefit the most,” he added.”

“One of the core reasons our co-founders set-up Grab (formerly known as MyTeksi) was to help improve the welfare of drivers – both taxi and GrabCar drivers. In fact, the exponential growth Grab has in both Malaysia and in the region, can be attributed to the fact that many are viewing Grab as a viable source of income and their support and commitment to provide the best Grab Ride Experience have helped us earn the passengers’ trust. Therefore, we are constantly seeking opportunities to recognise and reward our drivers for their partnership,” said Sean Goh, Country Head of Grab Malaysia.

Following today’s signing ceremony, Grab Ambassador Drivers will have the opportunity to sign up for the new Kad Mesra Grab, which will allow them to enjoy additional loyalty points for the purchase of PETRONAS fuel and lubricants products, as well as participate in various Mesra loyalty programmes organised by PDB throughout the year.

“We are constantly improving our driver benefit schemes, by seeking partnerships that helps us add more value to our driver-partners by reducing their daily operational cost thus able to maximise their final income. Aside from the fuel and lubricant benefits and exclusive discounts via the Kad Mesra Grab, they will also receive online shopping vouchers, car fresheners, food & beverage offers and car maintenance benefits,” added Goh.

Further, PDB and Grab is expected to roll out a joint Corporate Social Responsibility Programme later this year, involving the participation of Grab drivers to contribute to the betterment of the society.

PETRONAS’ winning fuels are available at more than 1,000 PETRONAS, 760 of which have accompanying Kedai Mesra – one-stop convenience centres that offers fuelling, dining, shopping, banking and other services, all under one roof.
