Grab Launches GrabBajay, Hyperlocal Based Service Supported with the Latest Technology

Jakarta, May 23, 2019 – Grab, the leading everyday super app in Southeast Asia, today proudly announces the launch of GrabBajay in Jakarta. Teaming up with the Jakarta Transportation Agency, GrabBajay will offer a unique, fast, safe, and comfortable transportation experience especially when travelling through  roads that are difficult to reach with four-wheeled vehicles. GrabBajay’s launch will further strengthen Grab’s commitment in providing hyperlocal daily transportation solutions  supported with the latest technologies that is aligned with the condition and needs of the city where Grab operates.

GrabBajay presence is also hoped to support the government’s initiative to resolve environmental pollution problem that is caused by motor vehicles, especially by supporting the government’s Langit Biru program to reduce air pollution from motor vehicles. The registered bajay for GrabBajay is an eco friendly gas-fueled vehicle.

GrabBajay makes it easy to reserve the Bajay service for anyone in Jakarta with only a few taps on their smartphone screen. Passengers do not need to worry about their safety and security when using GrabBajay because all of GrabBajay driver partners have passed the KIR (roadworthiness test),have a valid operational license, and passengers can access the bajay’s license plate number on the app. All of the drivers are also required to take several trainings, including passengers service training before they are able to take passengers.

GrabBajay’s benefits for driver partners and customers:

  • Can accommodate two persons
  • Can accommodate goods that are bought from the nearest shopping center
  • GrabBajay fleets are integrated in the Grab app, making customers easier to find GrabBajay on the road
  • Have a more certain and affordable pricing scheme for customers but still fair for driver partners.

Now users can access GrabBajay by tapping the “GrabBike” icon on the Grab app main screen. GrabBajay service is currently available at five (5) main points spread across Central Jakarta, including Jakarta Kota Station, ITC Mangga Dua, Mangga Besar Station, Sawah Besar Station, and Pasar Baru with rate of Rp 3000 per kilometer.

By utilizing technology, Grab has increased income opportunities for micro-entrepreneurs who work in the informal sector through ecosystems that help increase their income potential and improve their quality of life. Grab currently operates in 222 cities in Indonesia from Sabang to Merauke, and supports more than 5 million micro entrepreneurs through its platform.
