#AutoGampang: Find your pick-up point faster with Grab’s new Venues feature

Grab today rolls out across the region a new Venues feature - the first in the region - that will give passengers like you in-app photo and text directions to the pick-up point closest to you.

Jakarta, 9 April 2019 – If you’ve ever been to a huge airport, mall, or convention center with what feels like a million entrances (just think of ITC Roxy Mas, Grand Indonesia or Lippo Mall Puri!) you might have experienced the anxiety of trying to figure out which pick-up point is closest to you, and then having to quickly find your way there. Worst if you’re overseas and not familiar with where you’re at!

It’s why Grab has built into our app over 120,000 Entrances across Southeast Asia – the little green dots you see that let you choose exactly where you want to be picked up from.

Thanks to Entrances, Grab has reduced rendezvous distance – the distance walked between your selected pick-up point and the car – by over 40% across the region. But one challenge remains! How to quickly and easily navigate your way through the building to the pick-up point in the first place, which can be especially challenging in large, complex structures!

To solve for this, Grab today rolls out across the region a new Venues feature – the first in the region – that will give passengers like you in-app photo and text directions to the pick-up point closest to you.  So the next time you are at Changi Airport, here is how the new booking experience will work:

Step 1: Fire up the Grab app and tap on ‘Transport’. You will see a welcome screen showing you where you are.

Step 2: On booking screen, you will see a new pickup menu with a list of available pickup points. Confirm the pickup point you want and make the booking.

Step 3: Once you’ve been allocated a driver, tap on the bubble to get directions to your pick-up point

Step 4: Follow the landmarks and walking instructions and you’ve arrived at your pick-up point!

While this sounds like a simple enough solution to a very frequent headache – building it took massive effort! For the 600 Venues with directions available at the time of launch, Grab’s team spent over 3,000 man-hours collecting over 3,400 images for more than 1,900 pick-up points. Anything to make the consumer experience as delightful as possible! Plus it’s great for your driver too, as it means they can expect to spend less time waiting for passengers to show up.

Grab plans to further scale this effort to cover more than 10,000 Venues across the region in the next few months, and to eventually move to turn-by-turn navigation within the app.

So you’ll never have to stress about getting lost in a mall or airport ever again!
