Group CEO & Co-founder of Grab, Anthony Tan, Expresses Condolences and Long-term Support to the Family of a Driver-Partner in Makassar
From Singapore, Grab’s Group CEO & Co-founder Anthony Tan flew directly to Makassar to meet the bereaved family of a Driver-Partner.

Makassar, 1 September 2025 – The bond between Partners and the communities around them is built on humanity and sustained by lasting commitment. In moments of loss, that commitment means being present for families—walking alongside them so they never feel alone.
When Rusdamdiansyah (Dandi) passed away on 29 August 2025 in Makassar, condolences came with a promise: that his family would continue to be supported in every way possible. His passing is mourned deeply by his loved ones and by the wider Grab community. On 1 September, Group CEO & Co-founder Anthony Tan travelled from Singapore to Makassar, together with Grab Indonesia leaders Dyah NK Makhijani (President Commissioner of OVO), Dion Soetadi (Chief Financial Officer), Halim Wijaya (Director of East Indonesia Operations), Tirza Munusamy (Chief of Public Affairs), and Melinda Savitri (Country Marketing & Communications Head), to offer prayers, share moral support, and ensure comprehensive assistance for Dandi’s family.

“Grab wants to ensure that in both joy and sorrow, the family of the late Dandi never walks alone. Our support began immediately with financial assistance and logistical help to give strength during this moment. It continues with health coverage through BPJS Kesehatan, ensuring the family remains protected for the next two years. And looking further ahead, Grab is also providing business capital with GrabKios mentorship, offering a new foundation for the family to move forward with hope,” added Anthony.
For Grab, this support is not a one-off response. Rather, it is a promise to continuously accompany Partners and their families in all circumstances. More than just assistance, it represents sustained care to ensure that bereaved families still have opportunities to grow and the strength to face the days ahead.

“The safety and security of Driver-Partners have always been Grab’s top priority. We are committed to being present not only when Partners are working, but also when they and their families face difficult times. Grab provides tangible support, from compensation to long-term assistance programs, so that Driver-Partners continue to feel safe and protected. We also ensure long-term support for heirs, so affected families can bear this burden with a little more ease,” added Anthony.

As part of broader protection measures, Grab also introduced GERCEP (Grab Respon Cepat), an additional emergency channel enabling Partners to report urgent situations and receive immediate help. GERCEP is accessible via the emergency hotline 021-2350-7032, the Emergency Response HelpCenter at grb.to/gercep, and LiveChat with dedicated agents – live on 2 September 2025. This initiative is designed to ensure every emergency report is handled faster, more systematically, and with the reassurance that Partners are never alone.

As a closing note, Anthony also expressed his deep condolences on the passing of the late Affan Kurniawan in Jakarta, while praying for strength and resilience for the bereaved family. He also extended prayers for the recovery of Moh Umar Amarudin, currently treated at Pelni Hospital Jakarta, Aji Pratama, who is still under care at RSUD Tarakan Jakarta, and Budi Haryadi at Primaya Hospital Makassar.

“Partners are never alone. We will continue to be present, to accompany, and to walk alongside our partners across Indonesia. In joy or sorrow, I will always walk with them. Because in the end, this is about humanity—about caring for one another, strengthening each other, and ensuring that no one faces hardship alone,” Anthony concluded.
