Ojek riders to benefit financially and socially from app

JAKARTA, August 12, 2015 – GrabBike, the latest on-demand motorcycle taxi service, successfully signed up thousands of bikers today its first ever mass biker recruitment event. Nicknamed GrabBike Kingdom (GBK), the one-day event saw thousands of ‘ojek’ bikers thronged the Gelora Bung Karno, Senayan where the event was held.

More than 2,500 bikers in Jakarta visited the booths and spoke to GrabBike personnels directly. Among the activities held were introduction to GrabBike, tests, motorbike vehicle fitness inspections and training were held.

GrabBike is the latest service offering by GrabTaxi, Southeast Asia’s largest on-demand transport mobile application. GrabBike holds firm to the three key pillars of Safety, Certainty and Speed that is synonymous with GrabTaxi.

“As part of the Indonesian people’s lives, GrabBike has the commitment to create a safe and efficient ‘ojek’ service in the country. We welcome anyone who wants to join the GrabBike family. Therefore, we always implement high standards on our services, which through this recruitment process we can screen the prospective bikers and provide them with adequate training,” said Kiki Rizki, Country Head Marketing GrabTaxi Indonesia.

The GrabBike Kingdom was carried out to select prospective riders by implementing acceptance standardization system, where the riders were divided into several groups with each group consisted of 250 people that would go through these certain stages:

  • Stage 1: Vehicle inspection, registration and smartphone distribution
  • Stage 2: Training in utilizing the app and smartphone
  • Stage 3: Training on safe-driving and distribution of GrabBike attributes

Making tangible social impacts

Kiki added, “GrabBike is creating new jobs for ojek bikers and reducing the number of unemployment. Traditionally, ojek bikers waited for customers but this isn’t true anymore. With the app, we efficiently dispatch the bikers to customers who need the service. This means more jobs, which means increased income. In the long run, our GrabBike bikers are improving their livelihoods.”

In general the GrabBike bikers experience increase in their earnings compared to when they were regular ‘ojek’. Based on internal surveys, it was recorded that their income has increased at least three times on average.

In addition to offering the opportunity to improve welfare, GrabBike riders are also provided English language and safety driving training, motivational classes and accident insurance.

“We won’t stop here. We’re about to announce our new biker engagement activities that will include free health checks for our bikers and scholarships for biker’s children who excel in their studies. This a very exciting time for us GrabBike,” said Kiki.

On the other hand, passengers are benefited by GrabBike’s service standard that makes their rides convenient. Thanks to the knowledge and training provided by GrabBike, the bikers will always maintain the ‘ojek’ service to be safe and efficient for their passengers.

“GrabBike is committed to make positive impacts in Indonesians lives. This is just the start,” she added.
