JAKARTA, 1 October 2015 – GrabBike, the app-based motorcycle taxi service powered by the GrabTaxi mobile app, today launched #GrabItBeatIt, a regional campaign to promote breast health awareness and educate women on the importance of self-examination and early detection to beat breast cancer, one of the most common cancers in women. This campaign is part of GrabBike’s continued focus on enabling women’s health and safety.

In support of LOVEPINK a local non-governmental organisation (NGO) championing breast cancer awareness, GrabBike is selling limited edition t-shirts designed by a fashion brand Pestle and Mortar to raise funds to support LOVEPINK activities to reach out to women in Indonesia.

“We want to encourage women to prioritise their health and safety, particularly when there are options for preventive measures to be taken. For example, we have become a fundamental part of many women’s lives, allowing them to book transport from the comforts of their home or office and commute safely everyday”, said Kiki Rizki, Country Head Marketing, GrabTaxi Indonesia “With #GrabItBeatIt, we hope women will consciously think about early detection of breast cancer – so that they can continue to lead active and fulfilling lives.”

In Indonesia, breast cancer is the second most common type of cancer among women after cervical cancer and afflicts 1 in 8 women in their lifetime. Breast cancer has high cure rates when detected early, and GrabBike is providing a month long free/discounted rides to women who wants to have early detection, as well as those who already detected to breast cancer and would like to have regular check-up and/or treatment. Women in Indonesia can use the promo code ‘xxx’ when booking a GrabBike with the GrabTaxi app.

Tips on how to conduct self-examination of breasts will also be shared on GrabTaxi’s Facebook Page:

According to the World Health Organization , breast cancer kills more than 500,000 women around the world every year. In resource-poor settings, usually the developing countries, a majority of women with breast cancer are diagnosed at an advanced stage of disease, resulting in low 10 to 40 per cent five-year survival rates. In comparison, the five-year survival rate for early localized breast cancer in settings where early detection and basic treatment are available and accessible exceeds 80 per cent.

LOVEPINK spokesperson, xxxx said, “It can’t be stressed enough that early detection saves lives. More than 90 per cent of women diagnosed with breast cancer survive. We need to engage more people in a dialogue about breast cancer by sharing messages of hope and inspiration.”
