Bandung, 17 December 2018 – Grab, the leading online-to-offline (O2O) mobile platform in Southeast Asia and PT Bank Pembangunan Jawa Barat dan Banten (bank bjb) have today announced a strategic partnership in which Grab and bank bjb have launched co-branded ATM cards and the first integration of vehicle tax payment-by-installment program known as ‘T-Samsat’ for online drivers in Indonesia. The partnership was officially marked by signing the partnership agreement and the handover of the first Grab and bank bjb co-branding ATM cards for Grab driver-partners at the bank bjb head office in Bandung. Through this partnership, Grab driver partners are given access to bank bjb banking services and a Grab and bank bjb specially designed co-branded ATM cards that also serve as driver partners’ identity cards. These can also be used as discount cards at various merchants, such as official dealers, clothing outlets, and restaurants with terms and condition applying. In addition, driver partners can also participate in the T-Samsat program, which is a solution to vehicle tax payments with a year-long installment facility initially introduced by bank bjb for driver partners. The payment will be debited automatically from a customer’s bank bjb account and information related to the payment will be available on mobile phones. The T-Samsat program expected to encourage drivers to obey tax laws and increase local income in West Java Province.

“The partnership with bank bjb highlight our commitment for the welfare of our driver partners,” said Ridzki Kramadibrata, Managing Director Grab Indonesia. “This collaboration enables drivers to take advantage of T-Samsat services pioneered by bank bjb to pay vehicle tax using an installment system, as well as receive information and notifications of payments due on their mobile phones. This is expected to relieve driver partners’ financial burdens and encourage them to become more compliant in fulfilling their tax obligations,” he added. “Aside from that, driver-partners in West Java can also enjoy the convenience of accessing easier banking services with additional benefits presented through the launch of ATM cards specifically designed for these partners. “bank bjb is here to make it easier for people to use banking services, especially for Grab driver-partners in West Java,” said Head of Corporate Secretary Division of bjb, M. As’adi Budiman

As’adi Budiman elaborated that this partnership is also in line with the government’s program to encourage financial literacy and inclusion in the community through bank bjbGrab Indonesia account program. This exclusive program will make it easy for Grab driver partners to pay vehicle taxes in installments (T-Samsat).

Grab driver-partners do not have to worry about forgetting to pay taxes because bank bjb provides various features that make it easier for them as bank bjb customers,” added M. As’adi Budiman

There are also extra features for bank bjb and Grab account holders. The features are free initial deposits, free cash withdrawal at various bank bjb ATM networks, free purchase or shopping at EDC machines, ATM cards that serve as identity and bank bjb and Grab co-branded member cards, as well as discounts in various merchants commonly used by Grab partners, which are included in bank bjb and Grab special program draws. Bank bjb also provides additional features such as claims and due payments for Healthcare and Social Security Agency (BPJS), the city-owned water operator (PDAM), as well as land and building tax (PBB).

The low level of adoption of bank account services in Indonesia has led to many middle-class people in Indonesia not being able to enjoy the benefits of the digital economy. The results of the national literacy and financial inclusion survey 2016 show that there only 29.7% of Indonesians have adequate knowledge, skills, and trust in financial services and products, while 67.8% of Indonesians use commercial products and services1. Public-private partnerships, such as this by Grab and bank bjb, are expected able to answer challenges by making it easier for the middle-class to access banking services every day.Grab is one of the most used online-to-offline (O2O) mobile platforms in Southeast Asia, providing the most meaningful daily services for customers.
