Philippines, October 12, 2018 —Grab, Southeast Asia’s leading Offline-to-online (O2O) platform, is expanding its GrabTaxi service in Tacloban City. With the aim of providing locals and tourists a better way of getting around the city, Grab, in partnership with Lhuillier Taxi, will initially roll out 25 GrabTaxi units.

“Our commitment to provide better transportation options to more Filipinos remains firm. As we become the everyday app, we continue our commitment to bring more consumers to their destinations faster, safer and more reliable,” said Brian Cu, Grab Philippines’ Country Head. “Our expansion in Tacloban City cements our pledge to use technology to serve the everyday needs of our consumers,” Cu added.

Lhuiller Taxi has a fleet of 55 taxi units, and half of those have been deployed with Grab services.

Grab has also partnered with the City Planning office of the local government of Tacloban and the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) Region 8 to launch the service.

“By providing our platform to taxis in Tacloban, we are also supporting local drivers’ livelihood and welfare,” Cu explained.

In 2013, super typhoon Yolanda damaged and destroyed a huge part of Tacloban city, costing billions of pesos in losses to businesses and individuals. Five years after the onslaught of Typhoon Yolanda, the residents and local government of Tacloban city managed to quickly get back to their feet.  “We can help drive further growth into the city by providing more jobs and helping the transport and tourism sector, especially now that Tacloban is poised to become a preferred destination for tourists,” Cu said.

Grab is also working closely with local authorities to study other areas of partnerships, including driver education, safety trainings, and financial seminars.

Aside from Tacloban, Grab is also available in 10 cities in the Philippines, namely: Manila, Cebu, Davao, Pampanga, Cagayan de Oro, Bacolod, Baguio, Bataan, Naga, and Iloilo.
