GrabHitch (Nebeng) Facilitates Transportation Access for Teachers in East Nusa Tenggara through Boat Donation

Coincide with the Ramadan Holy Month, Grab, Southeast Asia’s leading ride-hailing and mobile payments platform, through one of its services – GrabHitch partnered with Kitabisa to facilitate transportation access for teachers in East Nusa Tenggara (NTT) by granting two boats for NTT teachers to go to school.

  • Grab through one of its services, GrabHitch (Nebeng) partnered with Kitabisa to provide boat donation for East Nusa Tenggara (NTT) teachers.
  • The social initiative is driven by GrabHitch United, a GrabHitch drivers community.
  • 10% of every GrabHitch (Nebeng) ride fare during 13 – 20 June 2017 was donated for this initiative.

 Jakarta, July 31st, 2017 – Coincide with the Ramadan Holy Month, Grab, Southeast Asia’s leading ride-hailing and mobile payments platform, through one of its services – GrabHitch partnered with Kitabisa to facilitate transportation access for teachers in East Nusa Tenggara (NTT) by granting two boats for NTT teachers to go to school. This social initiative was driven by the driver community of GrabHitch (Nebeng), named GrabHitch United, consisting of 108 GrabHitch (Nebeng) driver partners in Jabodetabek area.

Mediko Azwar, Country Marketing Director Grab Indonesia said, “In line with our long-standing commitment to improve the lives of local communities, Grab gives back to NTT teachers in need through boat donation. Besides doing business, we believe that our presence in here must create positive impacts for local communities at large and we do want to grow together with them in driving this country forward.”

Pura Island in Alor District, NTT consists of 5,144 peoples and there are only eight elementary schools as well as two junior-high-schools available. The infrastructure in this island hasn’t supported both two-wheel and four-wheel vehicles using yet, therefore the boat becomes the main transportation for teachers and students to go to schools.

Mediko further explained, “Every day, NTT teachers have to pass dangerous routes to sharing their knowledge to the students. Thus, we want to contribute to them by making transportation more accessible for them with our hyperlocal approach. With these boats, we hope it could help them not only to improve their productivity, but also bring about their noble purpose and support genuine dedication in accelerating the education in NTT.”

This social initiative was conducted for one week period, starting from 13 – 20 June 2017. Ten percent (10%) from each ride fare using any GrabHitch (Nebeng) services, including GrabHitch (Nebeng) Car and GrabHitch (Nebeng) Bike was collected and contributed in making this initiative more meaningful. Through this initiative, Grab successfully bestowed two boats to teachers in NTT.
