Grab and Bekraf Enters Strategic Partnership in Supporting Creative Economy Growth in Indonesia

Grab, the leading Online-to-Offline (O2O) mobile platform in Southeast Asia, today announced its strategic partnership with Indonesian Agency for Creative Economy (Bekraf) marked by Grab support for World Conference on Creative Economy (WCCE) held by Bekraf in Bali, 6-8 November 2018.

Jakarta, 5 November 2018 – Grab, the leading Online-to-Offline (O2O) mobile platform in Southeast Asia, today announced its strategic partnership with Indonesian Agency for Creative Economy (Bekraf) marked by Grab support for World Conference on Creative Economy (WCCE) held by Bekraf in Bali, 6-8 November 2018. This partnership aims at developing Indonesia’s creative economy industry, aligned with ‘Grab 4 Indonesia’ 2020 master plan.

The signing ceremony was attended by Ricky Joseph Pesik, Bekraf Deputy Head; and conducted by Ridzki Kramadibrata, Managing Director Grab Indonesia and Endah Wahyu Sulistianti, Deputy Chairman for Inter-Agency and Regional relations of Bekraf. This partnership is aligned with Bekraf’s mission to build Indonesia as one of the world economic powerhouses in creative economy in 2030, by uniting all assets and the country’s creative potentials in developing an independent creative economy.

Triawan Munaf, Head of Indonesian Agency for Creative Economy stated, “Indonesia has become one of the countries in the world that has the greatest economic performance. This positive climate is certainly the right moment for the government to strengthen the economic foundation, especially for the creative economy sector. Bekraf is pleased to welcome Grab’s support for WCCE 2018, which holds the same vision and mission in encouraging the development of the creative economy in Indonesia. The creative economy is expected to contribute more than IDR1,000 trillion towards Indonesia Gross Domestic Product (GDP) in 2018. Through this collaboration, we are confident that Indonesia’s creative economy would multiply.”

“Since last year, we have created hundreds of job opportunities in technology and empowered more than five million micro-entrepreneurs in Indonesia, one of them through Kudo acquisition. Today’s strategic partnership announcement is a long-term move to embody Grab’s commitment to support Indonesia in becoming the biggest digital economy in Southeast Asia in 2020. We have Grab Ventures program that is in line with the mission of Ministry of Communication and Informatics and Indonesian Agency for Creative Economy,” said Ridzki Kramadibrata, Managing Director Grab Indonesia during the signing ceremony.

The strategic partnership will begin with Grab’s support at the premiere of World Conference on Creative Economy (WCCE) held in Bali, 6-8 November 2018. As one of the key partners of WCCE, Grab will support this international conference which involves 15,000 participants from the government, entrepreneur, corporate and activist sector, as well as other creative industry players. The event will discuss the social impact of the creative economy, regulation of the rights for the creative industry, as well as actions needed in bringing the creative economy ecosystem further.   

“Grab support for World Conference on Creative Economy (WCCE) in Bali is the beginning of our collaboration with Bekraf. We are certainly committed and would collaborate further with Bekraf to realize Indonesia goal as the largest digital economy in Southeast Asia by 2020.” Ridzki concluded.

The launch of Grab Ventures to spur the creative economy acceleration in Indonesia

At the end of August, Grab has announced the phase III of ‘Grab 4 Indonesia’ 2020 master plan and also launched Grab Ventures program in Indonesia which aims to discover and nurture the next generation of technology leaders in Southeast Asia, while at once boosting innovation and digitalization. Through this program, Grab will partner or invest in startup companies that eager to address the challenges in mobility, food and beverages (F&B), logistic, financial technology, and other challenges in O2O sphere. This program is also expected to encourage startup companies to spur the creative economy acceleration in Indonesia.

Grab Ventures aims at developing the technology startups’ ecosystem in Indonesia. Grab will invest an additional US$250 million to Indonesia in the next three years through Grab Ventures Velocity scale-up programme.
