Grab Advances into On-Demand Logistics and Introduces Three New Instant Delivery Services in Thailand

  • The new GrabExpress now combines all delivery fleet options with new features to serve everyday needs of individual and business consumers
  • Beta version of ‘GrabMart’, an on-demand concierge service to purchase goods at convenient stores will soon be available on Grab app, followed by the launch of ‘GrabFresh’, an on-demand grocery delivery service within this year
  • Grab’s expansion of its on-demand logistics services taps on the growth of ecommerce in Southeast Asia, entrenching Grab’s latest strategic move to become an everyday superapp that serves the daily essential needs of its users

BANGKOK, 26 July 2018 – Grab, one of the most frequently used Online-to-Offline (O2O) mobile platforms in Southeast Asia, continues its smart city vision to become an everyday superapp by expanding the suite of on-demand logistics solutions on its platform. Grab today announces three new on-demand delivery services for Thai consumers: GrabExpress, GrabMart and GrabFresh.

Be it delivering packages for personal or business needs; getting daily essential items from nearby convenience stores or fresh groceries from supermarkets delivered right to their doorsteps, Grab aims to serve the daily essential needs of consumers through its full range of delivery services, all through one mobile app. At the same time, Grab empowers millions of micro-entrepreneurs and small businesses in Thailand to leverage its user base and wide distribution network to grow and scale faster. GrabExpress delivery partners will also get to enjoy better income opportunities arising from greater demand from consumers and businesses for delivery services.

‘GrabExpress’ is an on-demand parcel and document delivery service that will combine the distribution network of Grab’s vehicle fleets (motorcycle, car and pickup truck) to serve the increasing demand for delivery services from consumers and businesses. This service is now available on the Grab app. Next, coming August, the company will begin beta-testing ‘GrabMart’, an on-demand concierge service to purchase goods at convenient stores, where our GrabExpress delivery partners will receive orders and help users purchase their daily essential items at convenient store outlets (eg. FamilyMarts). Finally, in the later part of this year, users will get to enjoy  ‘GrabFresh’, an on-demand grocery delivery service.

“As we continue to innovate to serve the everyday needs of our consumers, Grab sees the enormous potential of our newly launched delivery services which not only caters to the increasing last-mile delivery needs of business entrepreneurs and consumers, but also serves Thailand’s growing e-commerce industry,” said Tarin Thaniyavarn, Country Head of Grab Thailand.  “Today’s launch is part of our vision to become an everyday superapp for Thai consumers as well as our strategic move into the on-demand logistics industry to create an ecosystem of essential services that improve the lives of people through the use of technology.”

The express delivery market in Thailand presents huge growth opportunities, in tandem with the growth potential of the e-commerce market which is projected to grow by at least 25% in 2018[1].

With the new GrabExpress, Grab users can choose from our vehicle fleet of either GrabExpress (Bike), GrabExpress (Car) or GrabExpress (Pick-up) to match their on-demand delivery needs. GrabExpress delivery service now offers:

  • Fast and multiple concurrent bookings of up to 10 deliveries to serve the increasing demand from users and businesses;
  • 24/7 delivery anywhere, anytime;
  • Real-time tracking of delivery status both on website and mobile
  • Best-in-market insurance coverage – GrabExpress users can ensure their peace of mind with up to THB10,000 coverage on delivered items in case of damage or loss by car or pickup delivery and up to THB5,000 for bike delivery, thanks to Grab’s partnership with leading insurTech company like Sunday Insurance.
  • Trusted and secure platform for guaranteed delivery: Users will receive a photo e-receipt as proof upon the completion of each delivery to ensure that their parcels are delivered to the right place and person.

GrabExpress service is now available in Bangkok and its vicinity including Nonthaburi, Pathum Thani, Samut Prakan, as well as in Chiang Mai. The service will expand its reach to Pattaya and other provinces very soon.

In addition, Grab will also launch a beta version of  ‘GrabMart’, an on-demand concierge service to purchase goods at convenient stores and deliver to your door in early August 2018. With GrabMart, users can pinpoint any convenience store  outlets (e.g. Family Mart) nearest to them and fill in their desired shopping items (Up to THB500 per order) in the “notes to driver” section.

Once booked, a nearby delivery partner will accept the job and call the user to confirm the item order. Prior to making payment at the convenience store, the delivery partner will confirm the final pricing with the user via GrabChat. The user can then just sit back and relax while waiting for the items to be delivered to their doorsteps, where users will pay the delivery partner by cash.

Later this year, Grab will also launch ‘GrabFresh’, an on-demand grocery delivery service. GrabFresh is a GrabPlatform partner integration with HappyFresh, Southeast Asia’s #1 grocery delivery provider. The service allows users to shop online and choose from the widest selection of grocery products from HappyFresh’s partnered supermarkets and specialty grocery chains through the Grab app at the comfort of their homes.  Delivery partners will then send the fresh groceries to their doorsteps within an hour, or at a pre-arranged and convenient time.

From now until 30 September 2018, business and SME entrepreneurs are invited to sign up for the “GrabExpress for Business” program, where top business users can enjoy additional discounts of up to THB1,000. Those who are interested in the program can register for a Grab for Business account at https://www.grab.com/th/business

New users are also invited to try GrabExpress by filling in the promo code ‘TRYNOW’ to receive THB50 discount (x2 times). Existing users can also fill in the promo code ‘USEGE’ to get THB25 discount (x4 times), from now until 12 August 2018.
