Grab joins forces with Dhipaya Insurance Introducing Thailand’s first insurance for ride-hailing services

.

Grab Thailand in partnership with Dhipaya Insurance are launching Thailand’s first-ever “insurance for public passenger vehicles via electronic systems” to support drivers who provide ride-hailing service in efforts to enhance the safety standards for public transportation in the digital era. The insurance highlights flexibility and affordable pricing, coming with the pay-per-use model with daily payment to eliminate the drivers’ burden of large annual cost. The policy covers personal accidents occurring to drivers and passengers (on top of Grab’s standard accident insurance coverage), and third-party’s death and property damages up to THB 500,000 in which details of the coverage can be checked in real-time through Grab’s driver application.

Worachat Luxkanalode, Country Head of Grab Thailand, said, “After the Ministry of Transport has approved the ministerial regulation that allows the use of personal cars for ride-hailing service via apps, Grab, as a pioneering ride-hailing platform operator whose application has received endorsement from the Department of Land Transport (DLT), has continuously encouraged and supported our driver-partners in complying with DLT’s regulations, such as public driver’s licence application and vehicle inspection and registration. We have also put efforts in enhancing operations and facilitating the drivers in other service-related procedures, including motor insurances, which is among the Department’s top requirements aiming at uplifting the safety standards and ensuring peace of mind for drivers, passengers and the public.”

“Apart from providing personal accident insurance coverage to driver-partners and passengers throughout the trip as part of our basic service with free of charge, Grab has partnered with Dhipaya Insurance in developing Thailand’s first insurance for public passenger vehicles via electronic systems, which has been approved by the Office of Insurance Commission (OIC). Aiming to offer additional protection to driver-partners, passengers and other road users in case of accidents during trips, the product promises flexibility and affordable pricing with the flat rate payment via pay-per-use model. The coverage period is 24 hours, commencing when driver-partners log into the system to start their operations, with easy subscription process and instant protection via group insurance scheme. In addition, Grab driver application has been upgraded to provide  real-time tracking of policies and coverage details of both personal accident and motor insurances, enabling driver-partners to easily access important information.”

Dr. Somporn Suebthawilkul, Chief Executive Officer of Dhipaya Group Holdings Public Co, Ltd and Managing Director of Dhipaya Insurance Public Co, Ltd, said, “The partnership between Dhipaya Insurance and Grab is Thailand’s first development of innovative insurance product to respond to digital lifestyles and behaviours as we have seen a number of Thais utilising technology and owned assets to earn extra income. The daily coverage has been approved by the Office of Insurance Commission (OIC). Under this partnership, Dhipaya Insurance also facilitates Grab driver-partners in compensation claim processes and provides TIP Smart Assist for the coordination and support in case of accidents.”
