Grab teams up with BMA to Enhance Songkran Safety through “Safe Ride | Safe Road” Campaign

.

Grab Thailand, in partnership with the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA) is launching the “Safe Ride | Safe Road with Grab” campaign to promote road safety during the upcoming Songkran Festival. This campaign aims to foster responsible driving practices among Grab’s driver- and delivery-partners, as well as to create peace of mind for Thais and international tourists through promotional activities, including offering discounts for Grab’s ride-hailing service, totaling over 3.7 million, and giving away 6,500 “TravelMate” goodie bags designed to raise safety awareness for those returning to their hometowns during the Songkran festival.

Worachat Luxkanalode, Country Head of Grab Thailand, commented, “As a leading platform providing on-demand transportation and delivery services, Grab gives top priority to safety since the inception of our business. We have, therefore, implemented a comprehensive suite of safety technologies and measures designed to bring preventable incidents on our platform down to ZERO and create peace of mind for our passengers, users, driver-partners, and even the public. Our efforts encompass promoting safe driving practices, preventing crime, and deterring misconduct. This includes stringent background checks on driver-partners with a requirement of a clean seven-year criminal record, AI-powered facial authentication, mandatory safety training, and real-time trip monitoring. Our latest feature, AudioProtect, enables both driver-partners and passengers to record audio during the ride, providing valuable evidence for investigation in case of disputes. This commitment is evident in Grab’s outstanding safety record, with over 99.99% of Grab rides occurring without any incidents across the platform.”

“This year, Grab Thailand remains committed to elevating its services with a focus on bolstering platform safety and advocating for road safety, especially during the Songkran festival in which a surge in Thai and foreign tourists traveling or returning home is anticipated due to the government’s tourism promotion initiatives and the ‘Soft Power’ policy. To support the government’s agenda, we are launching the Safe Ride | Safe Road campaign, in collaboration with key government agencies, including the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA, aiming to raise awareness of safe driving among our driver-partners and foster confidence among all travelers for a safe and enjoyable travel experience,” added Worachat.

The Safe Ride|Safe Road with Grab campaign addresses safety through three key initiatives, including:

Safe Drive: In addition to collaborating with the BMA to encourage its delivery-partners to strictly comply with traffic regulations and refrain from riding on footpaths, as outlined in our Memorandum of Understanding, Grab has developed an online road safety training course under the GrabAcademy programme. This course aims to reinforce safe driving principles, featuring an appearance by the honorable Bangkok Governor, Chadchart Sittipunt, who emphasizes the importance of responsible driving. Driver- and delivery-partners who successfully complete the course with a high service rating receive special-edition helmets as an incentive for safety and service excellence.

Safe Travel: To welcome both local and foreign tourists during the upcoming Songkran Festival in Bangkok, Grab has partnered with Chana Songkhram Police Station to facilitate transportation around Sanam Luang, Ratchadamnoen Avenue, Khao San Road, and nearby areas. This collaboration involves establishing event’s pick-up and drop-off points, updating POI data and traffic information on GrabMaps, and arranging a service booth to distribute drinking water and water-resistant pouches, as well as providing transportation information. Additionally, Grab is offering discounts for its on-demand transportation service to both Thais and foreign tourists throughout the month of April, totaling over THB 3.7 million. Tourists can simply enter the promo code ‘SONGKRAN’ to get a discount of up to THB 60 per ride when traveling with Grab in Bangkok and major tourist cities, including Chiang Mai, Phuket, Ayutthaya, Chon Buri, and Khon Kaen.

Safe Homecoming: As part of our initiative to promote safety awareness during Songkran, Grab will distribute 6,500 complimentary “TravelMate” goodie bags to individuals returning to their hometowns in the upcountry. These bags, containing essential refreshments such as Coke, drinking water, and salted plums, along with refreshing towels, will be distributed at the Grab booth located at the Bangkok Bus Terminal Chatuchak (Mochit 2), during April 8 – 11 or until stock lasts.
