Grab Joins Forces with TFPD to Promote Road Safety Distributing 6,000 Helmets to Drivers Across Five Major Cities

.

Grab Thailand, in partnership with the Traffic Police Division (TFPD), is supporting the “Safe Roads Project,” a  Royal Thai Police’s initiative aimed at promoting traffic discipline and enhancing road safety nationwide. The project reinforces the importance of all motorcyclists and passengers strictly following traffic regulations and wearing helmets on every journey. To support this initiative, Grab has distributed 6,000 helmets to GrabBike drivers serving passengers in five major cities, including Bangkok, Chiang Mai, Chonburi, Pattaya, and Phuket. This effort reflects Grab’s commitment to promoting safety and providing passengers with greater peace of mind throughout their trips.

Maythinee Anavachkul, Director of Mobility and Driver Operations at Grab Thailand, commented, “Over the past 12 years of providing ride-hailing services in Thailand, Grab has remained committed to continuously enhancing safety for everyone. Promoting road safety has always been one of our top priorities, with 99.9% of all rides on the Grab platform completed without any safety-related incidents. Throughout the years, we have collaborated with various organizations to conduct training sessions that instill safe driving habits and raise driver awareness, while continuing to invest in safety technologies to help prevent road accidents. This includes in-app speeding alerts when a driver exceeds the speed limit and a ‘fatigue nudges’ safety feature, which reminds drivers to take a break when they have been driving for long hours.”

Statistics show a continued increase in road accidents across Thailand, with many injuries and fatalities linked to motorcycle riders and passengers not wearing helmets. To address this issue and reduce casualties, the Metropolitan Police Bureau and the Traffic Police Division have intensified efforts to advocate for 100% helmet use among motorcycle users and passengers.

“In support of the Royal Thai Police’s enforcement of motorcycle helmet regulations to reduce accidents and fatalities, we have produced and distributed 6,000 helmets to GrabBike drivers. These helmets are available for passengers, both Thais and foreign tourists, when using our services in Bangkok, Chiang Mai, Chonburi, Pattaya, and Phuket.  We hope this initiative not only sets a positive example for motorcycle users, but also enhances peace of mind for both drivers and passengers,” added Mathinee.

Pol. Maj. Gen. Damrongsak Sawang-ngam, Commander of the Traffic Police Division, stated: “Road accidents in Thailand have been rising over the years. In response, the Royal Thai Police launched the ‘Safe Roads Project’ to reduce accidents and improve travel safety—particularly through strict enforcement of helmet usefor both drivers and passengers. The Traffic Police Division is grateful for the support from all sectors in raising road safety awareness, fostering a culture of safety, and helping to reduce losses caused by road accidents.”

The collaboration between Grab Thailand and the Traffic Police Division for the “Safe Roads Project” underscores Grab’s commitment, as Thailand’s No.1 ride-hailing platform*, to promoting road safety and contributing to a safer and more sustainable quality of life for the Thai people.

*Thailand’s No.1 ride-hailing application in 2024, according to Kantar.
