Grab Upgrades “Group Ride” and “Grab EV” Features

.

Grab Thailand is stepping up its efforts to promote the Green Mobility trend by introducing two enhanced ride-hailing options designed to make everyday travel more sustainable. The company has officially launched the “Group Ride”, a feature that enables passengers travelling in the same direction to share a ride, with up to four pick-up and drop-off points in a single trip. Powered by AI, the feature optimizes routes and calculates each passenger’s fares based on actual distance travelled.

At the same time, Grab has upgraded its “Grab EV” service, allowing users to specifically choose electric vehicles for their journey. These options offer greater flexibility and convenience while encouraging more environmentally friendly travel choices.

Arisa Lorthongpaisarn, Director of Mobility and Driver Operations, Grab Thailand, said, “Today’s consumers are increasingly conscious of choosing products and services that are more environmentally friendly,  especially among Gen Z and Millennials, with over 60% willing to pay a premium for sustainable brands.[1] This is also reflected in the growing demand for electric vehicles on our platform, with adoption of our EV Rides feature increasing by more than 35%.”

To respond to this trend, Grab has upgraded the EV Rides feature into the “Grab EV” service this year, giving passengers the option to specifically request electric vehicles for their journey. The service is currently being piloted in Bangkok and other major cities.

“We have also officially launched Group Ride, making it easier for passengers traveling in the same direction to share a ride with friends. In addition to helping reduce carbon emissions, carpooling can also lower travel costs. Since its initial rollout in March, we have seen strong adoption, particularly among university students, office workers, and groups heading home together after dining and socializing between 7:00 and 11:00 PM.”

Group Ride: Share Trips, Lower Carbon, Save Fares

  • The Group Ride feature is designed to make group travel easier, allowing users to add up to four pick-up and drop-off points within a single trip. The first person to book the ride, or the host, can share a booking link via LINE, WhatsApp, or Messenger with fellow passengers, who can then add their respective destinations directly.
  • The feature uses AI to optimize the route and calculate each passenger’s fare based on the actual distance travelled. Users can choose from three payment options: the host pays for everyone, the total fare is split equally, or each passenger pays according to their individual travel distance. This simplifies group travel by making it easier to coordinate destinations and manage fares.
  • Beyond reducing carbon emissions through carpooling, Group Ride can help users save up to 40% compared with travelling alone. From today to December 31, 2026, Group Ride users can also enjoy additional discounts based on the number of pick-up and drop-off points, 10% off for two points, 15% off for three points, and 20% off for four points.[3]

Grab EV: An Electric Vehicle Ride Option

  • Grab has been promoting EV adoption in Thailand since 2020. In addition to encouraging drivers and riders in switching to EVs through the GrabEV programme, Grab also introduced the Grab EV Rides feature, allowing users to indicate their preference for travelling by EV. To date, more than 250,000 users [4] have switched this EV toggle on.
  • In response to the growing Green Mobility trend, Grab has upgraded the feature this year with the launch of “Grab EV”, allowing users to specifically choose an EV for their journey. The service is currently being piloted in Bangkok and major cities, including Chiang Mai, Chiang Rai, Chonburi, and Phuket.
  • To encourage more users to experience Grab EV, Grab is offering 15% off (up to THB 100) when using the promo code “GRABEV” valid from today to December 31, 2026.
