Grab Awards Over THB 6.5 Million in Scholarships to Thai Youth

.

Grab Thailand, in partnership with the Ministry of Digital Economy and Society (MDES), recently hosted an event to award scholarships worth more than THB 6.5 million, with the aim of expanding learning opportunities and promoting digital literacy among Thai youth. The funds comprise THB 3 million under the “Grab The Future 2025” scholarship programme for the children of Grab drivers, full university scholarships, and educational equipment grants through the “GrabScholar” programme worth over THB 3.5 million.

Suchada  Zhang  Thaensap, Secretary to the Minister of Digital Economy and Society, said, “Enhancing the digital literacy of Thais so they can keep pace with the evolving digital era is one of the Ministry’s key priorities, in line with the government’s ‘Quick Big Win’ agenda. Artificial intelligence (AI) plays a crucial role in strengthening Thailand’s long-term competitiveness. Therefore, building proper knowledge and understanding of safe and responsible AI literacy is essential, especially among young people who form the foundation of our future digital society.”

“The MDES is delighted to collaborate with the private sector like Grab Thailand, to advance digital learning among students. Although the current government’s tenure is limited, the Ministry remains committed to driving digital policies forward with determination to ensure the successful implementation of all initiatives.”

Chantsuda Thananitayaudom, Country Head of Grab Thailand, stated, “As a leading digital platform, Grab firmly believes in leveraging technology to create opportunities, elevate the quality of life of Thais, and drive positive social impact. Over the past 12 years, we have continued building our business and organization through technology under the ‘GrabForGood’ commitment. Promoting education and uplifting the potential of Thai people, including the younger generation, has always been one of our key priorities. Digital literacy, which focuses on developing digital skills and understanding of technology, is essential preparation for a future where technology and AI will play a critical role across all professions.”

“In addition to promoting digital inclusion among our drivers and merchant-partners to improve income opportunities, ‘Grab The Future’ is another key initiative we have consistently carried out in Thailand to broaden educational opportunities for students with strong academic performance or extracurricular achievements. In celebration of Grab Thailand’s 12th anniversary this year, the programme themed ‘Promoting Lifetime Learning For All’ expands its impact by increasing the number of scholarships for the children of drivers, benefiting 600 families nationwide with a total of THB 3 million,” added Chantsuda.

To further expand educational opportunities for Thai youth, Grab has partnered with the Yuvabadhana Foundation to launch the GrabScholar programme for the first time in Thailand. Supported by the GrabForGood Fund totaling over THB 3.5 million, a regional initiative that promotes socioeconomic mobility for youth across Southeast Asia, GrabScholar offers six full university scholarships for Thai students pursuing studies in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics), Business, or Sustainability.  The programme also offers 300 educational equipment grants for students from kindergarten to high school to support early-stage learning.

Chutikarn Jaidee, the daughter of a Grab driver and a recipient of the Grab The Future scholarship, shared, “I received a scholarship from Grab in 2022 and used it to attend extra classes, which helped me earn a full scholarship throughout high school. This opportunity has allowed me to grow and move closer to achieving my dreams. My family is deeply grateful to Grab, especially my father, who has been driving with Grab for 10 years to support our family and take me to school safely every day.  This has given him motivation and pride.”

“Moving forward, I plan to deepen my knowledge of technology and AI to continue learning beyond the classroom and prepare myself to achieve my dream of becoming a doctor,” added Chutikarn.
