Grab to Expand “Grab Quick Cash” Nationwide Increasing Loan Limit to THB 30,000 and Tenure to 9 Months
.
Grab Thailand has seen strong interest in the “Grab Quick Cash”, its nano finance loan for consumers during the first four months of its pilot in Bangkok Metropolitan Region. Insights show that borrowers are taking a cautious and measured approach to lending, with more than 80% choosing to take loans only a portion of their offered credit limit, taking up an average of just 70% of the amount offered.
Working adults aged 30-45, dubbed the “Sandwich Generation” or “family breadwinners,” account for the largest borrower segment at more than 60%, followed by Gen X and First Jobbers. Most borrowers use the loans to manage day-to-day liquidity and support business expansion.
Following the positive response, Grab aims to expand Grab Quick Cash to major provinces in the third quarter, while increasing the maximum loan amount to THB 30,000 and extending the maximum repayment tenure to nine months, providing greater flexibility and broader access to digital financing for Thais.
Phurush Ongsri, Head of Financial Services at Grab Thailand, said, “We began piloting Grab Quick Cash in Thailand in April, targeting Grab users looking for additional funds to support income-generating activities. The product initially offered a loan limit of up to THB 20,000, with a maximum repayment tenure of up to six months. With an easy application process requiring no supporting documents, fast approval, and a fully digital experience through the Grab app, Grab Quick Cash has received positive feedback from our users in urban areas.”
“We have also gained valuable insights into borrowers’ needs and behaviors through user surveys and application patterns, which vary across different user segments. These insights will help us further refine the product and service experience to better meet consumers’ evolving financial needs.”
Decoding Grab Quick Cash Borrowers:
- The “Sandwich Generation” leads the way: More than 60% of Grab Quick Cash borrowers are working adults aged 30–45, making them the largest borrower segment. Many are entering the “Sandwich Generation” stage, balancing financial responsibilities for themselves, their children and aging parents. They are followed by Gen X users aged 46 and above, who continue to manage a broad range of financial commitments, and First Jobbers aged 20–29, who are more likely to explore entrepreneurship and multiple income streams but many have limited financial reserves for necessary expenses.
- Borrowing only what they need, repay what they can afford: More than 80% of Grab Quick Cash borrowers do not borrow their full loan offered credit amount, taking up an average of just 70% of the available offer. Nearly half borrow THB 15,000 or less, while almost 70% choose repayment terms of five to six months, equivalent to average monthly repayment of approximately THB 2,400 – 2,500. This suggests that borrowers are primarily focused on taking on a repayment amount they can comfortably manage.
- Different generations, different financial needs: When it comes to how the loans are used, the “Sandwich Generation” and Gen X show similar priorities, with more than 70% using the funds as working capital for everyday expenses, business expansion, and emergency reserves. Meanwhile, First Jobbers are more likely to use the loans as start-up capital, including purchasing equipment needed to work and generate additional income.
“To expand access to digital financial services for more Thais, we will continue to grow our personal lending offering by expanding to users nationwide including major provinces, such as Chonburi, Khon Kaen and Chiang Mai in the third quarter. At the same time, we will increase the loan amount and extend the repayment period. This will provide greater flexibility and help address the different needs of users across segments,” Phurush added.
