Grab Thailand Ramps Up EV Push Amid Rising Fuel Costs Forming Nine New Strategic Partnerships to Drive EV Adoption Among Drivers-Riders
.
Grab Thailand is accelerating its Grab EV programme in response to the ongoing energy crisis by announcing strategic partnerships with nine new partners, including EV manufacturers and distributors, as well as taxi cooperatives. These partnerships aim to expand access to electric vehicles for drivers and riders on the platform through “End-to-End EV Rental” and “Drive-to-Own” models, supporting long-term fleet solutions and lowering drivers’ operating costs.
The company also reported strong progress in its Grab EV programme, with over 30,000 EV fleets now operating on the platform. Meanwhile, adoption of the Grab EV Rides feature has increased by more than 35%, reflecting growing environmental awareness among users.
Chantsuda Thananitayaudom, Country Head of Grab Thailand, said, “Grab has been the first platform in Thailand to promote the use of EVs for ride-hailing and delivery services since 2020. We have collaborated with partners across the ecosystem—including EV manufacturers and distributors, charging station operators, battery management service providers, and financial institutions—to make EV adoption more accessible for our drivers and riders.”
“Over the years, we have continued to expand our partnerships and enhance the Grab EV programme. Today, more than 30,000 drivers and riders are using EVs to provide services on our platform. At the same time, consumers are placing greater importance on environmental sustainability, as reflected in the adoption of the Grab EV Rides feature, which has increased by over 35% compared to the same period last year.”
In light of geopolitical tensions in the Middle East, which have led to volatility and rising oil prices, the tourism and transportation sectors are facing mounting cost pressures. As a leading ride-hailing and food delivery platform with hundreds of thousands of drivers and riders across Thailand, Grab has taken proactive steps, including providing subsidies to drivers and accelerating the Grab EV programme.
“Beyond enabling those who already own EVs to operate on our platform, we are also supporting drivers and riders in accessing EVs through rental and ownership options. Through our partnerships with nine new partners across both electric cars and motorcycles, we aim to expand choices for drivers while building a more comprehensive EV ecosystem.”
Supporting EV Adoption Through Two Key Models
Through this latest collaboration, Grab continues to support drivers and riders in adopting EVs through two key models:
- End-to-End EV Rental Model: Grab has partnered with five electric taxi rental providers—EV7, Ch. Pattana Taxi, Siam Taxi Cooperative, Mittare Taxi Cooperative, and P-bike—enabling taxi drivers to rent EV taxis for use on the Grab platform, with rental rates starting from THB 800 per day. In addition, Grab has collaborated with SLEEK EV to offer electric motorcycle rentals for delivery riders, with rental rates starting from THB 125 per day.
- Drive-to-Own Model: Grab has partnered with CL & V GROUP CAR RENT and BORROW Mobility (By B Autohaus) to provide drivers with accessible pathways to EV car ownership. Loan approvals are based on drivers’ performance on the platform, with daily payments starting from THB 600 over a lease term of up to five years. Additional benefits include first-class public vehicle insurance, free scheduled maintenance, battery insurance coverage up to eight years or 600,000 kilometers, and free tire replacements throughout the contract period. Additionally, Grab has partnered with EM Motor to enable riders to own electric motorcycles through daily installment plans starting from THB 105, over a period of 2–3 years. Benefits include free replacement of one pair of tires and four pairs of brake pads, among others.
Grab is also enhancing access to EV charging infrastructure to improve convenience and provide exclusive benefits for drivers. The company is collaborating with leading charging station operators with extensive networks, including Sharge under Sharge Management, Spark EV located in Bangchak stations, and Altervim Super Charge stations.
The Grab EV programme plays a central role in supporting drivers’ transition to low- or zero-emission vehicles and contributes to Grab’s goal of achieving carbon neutrality by 2040. This is supported by other key initiatives, including powering operations with renewable energy, integrating sustainable business and technology practices, and empowering consumers to take climate-positive actions beyond the value chain.
In 2026, Grab Thailand continues to strengthen collaborations with both public and private sectors to advance sustainability and create positive social impact—one of its three key business priorities under the “Winning with Purpose Together” strategy.
