Grab Releases 2024 ESG Report

.

Grab, a leading superapp in Southeast Asia, has released its 2024 ESG Report, highlighting its positive contributions to the economy, society, and environment over the past year. Key highlights include: enabling drivers and merchant-partners to earn over USD 12.8 billion on its platform; advancing financial inclusion for the underbanked with more than USD 2.2 billion in loans disbursed to MSMEs and drivers; reducing 128,000 tonnes of CO₂ emissions through the adoption of low- or zero-emission vehicles; and avoiding 936,000 tonnes of emissions through carbon credit purchases.

Chantsuda Thananitayaudom, Country Head of Grab Thailand, commented, “For over 12 years since its inception, Grab has operated with a strong commitment to sustainable growth, focusing on the triple bottom line—balancing our impact across three key areas: business, society, and the environment. We remain dedicated to improving the quality of people’s lives across Southeast Asia in line with our GrabForGood mission.”

“In Thailand, alongside continuously enhancing our platform and services to meet evolving consumer needs, we have launched various initiatives that aim to create tangible societal impact. These include our GrabEV programme, which provides drivers with access to electric vehicles (EVs) in support of national environmental policies—with over 10,000 EVs now in operation on the Grab platform; planting more than 200,000 trees in Thailand through user-supported carbon offset contributions under the Carbon Offset programme; and enabling Thais to earn income through Grab, contributing THB 179 billion annually to the Thai economy—equivalent to around 1% of national GDP¹. We will continue to advance these efforts in close collaboration with public and private partners to drive economic and societal progress in Thailand.”

Recently, Grab released its 2024 ESG Report presenting a comprehensive overview of its progress across three key pillars: empowering people within its ecosystem (Partner), enhancing platform safety and reliability (Platform), and addressing environmental impact (Planet). Key highlights include:

PARTNER

  • USD 12.8 billion was earned by drivers and merchant-partners on the Grab platform, reflecting a 16% year-on-year increase.
  • More than 99% of drivers across the region met or exceeded local hourly minimum wage.
  • Over 600,000 MSMEs were onboarded. MSMEs contributed approximately 67% of the GMV for GrabFood and GrabMart.
  • USD 2.2 billion in loans were disbursed, a 46% increase from the previous year.

PLATFORM

  • 99.9% of all rides on the platform occurred without any safety-related incidents.
  • 100% of drivers were provided with insurance coverage for work-related accidents.
  • Usage of the AudioProtect feature increased 2.4 times between January and December 2024.
  • 1 in 2 women drivers opted into the Women Passenger Preferred feature since its launch in early 2024.

PLANET

  • 128,000 tonnes of CO₂ emissions were reduced through the increased adoption of low- or zero-emission vehicles, such as EVs and hybrids.
  • 600,000 trees were planted, while 936,000 tonnes of emissions were avoided through the purchase of carbon credits using user-contributed carbon offset funds.
  • 929 million plastic cutlery sets were avoided, preventing an estimated 8,363 tonnes of waste.
  • 384,519 pieces of recyclables were collected through strategic environmental partnerships.

In celebration of World Environment Day 2025, Grab Thailand continued its “GrabForGood” initiative for the third consecutive year, promoting environmental awareness among employees. Organized under the theme “From Waste to Wow,” this year’s activity aimed to deepen employees’ understanding of sustainable waste management through hands-on learning experiences demonstrating how waste can be transformed into valuable resources. The initiative was held in collaboration with Paklad Zero Waste, a model community in Phra Pradaeng District, Samut Prakan Province, recognized for its leadership in waste segregation and recycling.

Community members shared practical approaches to sustainable, community-driven waste management, offering valuable insights and inspiration. Participants also took part in a creative workshop where used paper was upcycled into decorative sculptures—showcasing how everyday waste can be repurposed into income-generating products that benefit local communities. Another workshop, led by PakDone, a social enterprise focused on organic waste management, guided participants in converting food scraps into compost using simple, home-friendly methods.
