Grab starts introducing GrabPay by Moca, brand-new cashless payment method, in Vietnam

  • Cashless payment solutions of Moca will be deployed for services on Grab
  • Convenient payment, safe expenditure and many attractive promotions right on the Grab app
  • No need to download Moca app, customers will be able to use GrabPay by Moca from within the Grab app
  • Vietnam, October 2018 — Grab is starting to introduce payment solutions of Moca under brand-new cashless payment  method namely GrabPay by Moca to bring swift, seamless and secure cashless payment experience to Grab users in Vietnam. This move is one of the results from the strategic partnership between Grab and Moca to promote cashless payment, announced by the two companies in September 2018. With this new payment cashless payment  method, customers of Grab will be able to pay with ease, enjoy safe expenditure as well as attractive promotion on GrabRewards loyalty programme. Personal information of users is ensured under advance payment security and fraud prevention protocols, allowing customers peace of mind when using service.

    The launch of GrabPay by Moca is implemented by batches and is expected to be completed in October 2018. To use GrabPay by Moca, customers have two following options:

    GrabPay by Moca E-wallet

    Customers need to activate their GrabPay by Moca E-wallet to use the wallet and access other exciting features.

    How to set up your GrabPay by Moca E-wallet:

    Step 1: Update your app to the latest version on App Store/ Google Play

    Step 2: Tap on “Activate”

    Step 3: Enter your SMS OTP

    Step 4: Tap on “Link ATM card”

    Step 5: Enter ATM card details from any supported bank and follow the instructions

    Step 6: Activated! You can continue to use your current GrabPay Credits balance, top up your wallet and use other wallet functions

    After the wallet is successfully activated, customers can directly top up their GrabPay by Moca from your linked ATM card or International Debit Card (Debit Visa/ MasterCard/ Amex/ JCB) issued by all banks.

    Note:

    • Prior to activation completion, your GrabPay Credits balance will not be displayed. Any balance on your GrabPay Credits (if any) will be migrated to GrabPay by Moca wallet and available for use following activation completion.
    • If you are using Moca app, your existing balance on Moca wallet (if any) will be merged with your balance on GrabPay by Moca wallet after completing activation.

    Make direct cashless payments for Grab services using international credit and debit cards (VISA / MasterCard / Amex / JCB) via payment gateway service of Moca by way of linking those cards on Grab App.

    In the case where activation process cannot be done, the customer can still have the cashless payment options for  services on Grab by using the International Credit and/or International Debit Card (Credit/ Debit Visa/ MasterCard/ Amex/ JCB) via payment gateway service of Moca when adding these cards on Grab app.

    Currently, this cashless payment methods can only be used for GrabCar, GrabBike and GrabExpress.

    Notes:

    • In accordance to regulation, you can not top up directly from a credit card to e-wallet.
    • To support customers quickly to link accounts with GrabPay by Moca E-wallet on Grab app, Grab will prioritize the linking of ATM cards and stop the top-up process through Internet Banking from 10/10/2018.

    • GrabPay by Moca E-wallet only supports customers who use local phone numbers (+84). Therefore, if you previously registered your Grab account with a foreign phone number, please re-register with a local phone number to activate and use your wallet.

    • Customers who use foreign phone numbers still can make payment for Grab services with their international debit/credit cards (VISA/ MasterCard/ JCB/ Amex) which are directly linked with their Grab account.

    • In case customers do not use ATM card issued by banks in cooperation with Moca, at your request the current balance in your GrabPay Credits (if any) will be refunded or converted to promo codes with the same value.

    APPENDIX – FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

    What is Moca? Do I need to download the Moca app to use GrabPay by Moca?

    • Moca is one of Vietnam’s leading mobile wallet and payments providers.
    • Grab users will be able to use their GrabPay by Moca account from within the Grab app, and DO NOT NEED to download Moca app.

    What if I still have my balance in GrabPay Credits?

    You will need to activate your GrabPay by Moca wallet by:

    (a) Verifying your registered mobile number via SMS OTP

    (b) Linking an ATM card from a supported bank, before you can use your existing GrabPay Credits balance (if any).

    Note:

    • Prior to activation completion, your GrabPay Credits balance will not be displayed. No worries, any balance on your GrabPay Credits (if any) will be migrated to GrabPay by Moca wallet and available for use following activation completion.
    • If you are using Moca app, your existing balance on Moca wallet (if any) will be merged with your balance on GrabPay by Moca wallet after completing activation.

    How do I link my ATM card to my GrabPay by Moca account? Which banks are supported?

    You can link your ATM card to your GrabPay by Moca account by entering your ATM card number, expiry date, name on card and follow the instructions on the app.

    You can only use locally issued bank ATM cards from supported banks: BIDV, SCB, ACB, STB, VietinBank, Vietcombank, VPBank, Timo powered by VPBank to link with GrabPay by Moca wallet.

    Notes:

    • You can’t link VISA/MasterCard/Amex/JCB debit cards, UNLESS Vietcombank has issued them.
    • As per local regulations, linking a credit card to your wallet is not allowed.

    What if I don’t have a local ATM card from any of the supported banks to link with the wallet?

    In case customers do not use ATM card issued by banks in cooperation with Moca, customers still can make cashless payment for Grab services with their international debit/credit cards (Credit/ Debit VISA/ MasterCard/ Amex/ JCB) via payment gateway of Moca when adding these cards on Grab app.

    At your requests, Grab will perform a refund or convert the remaining GrabPay Credits balance to ride vouchers.

    How do I top up my GrabPay by Moca wallet?

    After successfully activating your GrabPay by Moca Wallet, you can top up your GrabPay by Moca balance using any of the following options:

    (a) ATM card: you can top up using the ATM card linked to your GrabPay by Moca wallet

    (b) International Debit cards: You can top up your balance using domestic debit cards or international debit cards affiliated with Visa, MasterCard, Amex, JCB)

    Can I use my credit card to top up my GrabPay by Moca wallet?

    As per local regulations, the use of credit cards to top up your wallet is not allowed.

    Besides GrabPay by Moca, do I have other cashless payment methods to pay for Grab’s services?

    Customers still can make cashless payment for Grab services with their international debit/ credit cards (Credit/ Debit VISA/ MasterCard/ Amex/ JCB) via payment gateway services of Moca when linked those cards on Grab app.

    Currently, this cashless payment method can only be used for GrabCar, GrabBike and GrabExpress.

    Is GrabPay by Moca safe to use?

    GrabPay by Moca uses advance payment security and fraud prevention protocols to ensure your balance remains safe and sound.

    Why am I being asked link my ATM card to my GrabPay by Moca account?

    In accordance to local regulations, a wallet must be linked with a bank account. In order to facilitate your smooth activation, Moca and banks shall support such bank account linkage via ATM cards.

    Can I use my foreign phone number to activate GrabPay by Moca wallet?

    GrabPay by Moca e-wallet only supports customers who use local phone numbers (+84). Therefore, if you previously registered your Grab account with a foreign phone number, please re-register with a local phone number to activate and use your wallet.

    Customers using foreign phone numbers still can make cashless payment with their international debit/credit cards (Credit/ Debit VISA/ MasterCard/ Amex/ JCB) via payment gateway services of Moca when which are directly linked those cards on Grab app.
