January 17, 2019, Cebu City — Grab, the leading Online-to-Offline (020) mobile platform in Southeast Asia and the only everyday app in the Philippines serving the daily essential needs of Filipinos, announced the expansion of GrabFood in Cebu today. In just 6 months after its beta launch in Metro Manila, GrabFood’s completed orders grew by 12x, making it the leading online food delivery service in the Philippines.

GrabFood continues to sustain its hypergrowth stage as it further expands its services in more cities and grows its merchant-partners base in the Philippines. GrabFood now has 5,000 active restaurants on its platform – 4000 from Manila and 1000 in Cebu – providing the largest restaurant selection that will surely satisfy more cravings. GrabFood currently serves 13 cities in the Philippines including Cebu and Mandaue, and other Metro Manila areas such as BGC, Makati, Ortigas, San Juan, Mandaluyong, Quezon City, Manila, Parañaque, Las Piñas, Pasay, and Marikina.

With the addition of the GrabFood service, Cebu now becomes the second market in the Philippines to showcase a suite of everyday services powered by one Grab ecosystem. Cebuanos can now use Grab to book rides, send and receive packages, redeem rewards and offers, order food, load mobile prepaid account, and pay for multiple services using one mobile wallet, all in one Grab app.

Unlocking the potential of Cebu’s food industry

GrabFood aims to replicate its success in Metro Manila to Cebu. On top of being a booming economy for technology, Cebu is also poised to bring growth opportunities in the food business through the following:

    1. Cebuanos’ strong support for homegrown food merchants – With the support of locals, homegrown food brands such as Rico’s Lechon and Zubochon successfully expanded their operations to bigger markets outside of Cebu. With GrabFood, they now have an online storefront, allowing them to reach even more consumers and increase their revenues.
    2. Innovative and creative food landscape in Cebu – Cebu’s homegrown brands such as Sugbo Mercado aim to bring a more unique food selection from across the globe. With GrabFood, food establishments can be promoted to a bigger and targeted online market, instead of relying solely on in-store visits.
    3. Cebu’s social savvy yet discerning eaters – When choosing their food, Cebuano’s decide base on two inseparable themes: good food and value for money. With GrabFood, consumers get access to a comprehensive digital menu that further supports discerning eaters.
    4. Community of rider groups that can support food delivery business. Habal-habal drivers can be given a more sustainable source of livelihood when they join GrabFood as delivery partners. Best performing delivery partners earn up to 2x higher in average minimum national wage.

GrabFood has partnered with local brands such as Dimsum Break, Zubuchon, Bubble Tea Station, Sugbo Mercado, and soon, international brands including McDonalds and BonChon in Cebu to satisfy more cravings.

“Our goal as Filipino’s everyday super app is to provide greater convenience to more people using our daily tech solutions,”  EJ Dela Vega, GrabFood Philippines Head. “As one of the best food markets in the country, we are inspired to bring new food experiences and create a positive impact to the lives of more eaters, merchant-partners and delivery partners in Cebu,” Dela Vega added.

More food celebrations this Sinulog Festival

Cebuanos can use GrabFood promo code GFSINULOG to avail P100 off three (3) GrabFood orders. Valid for a minimum single receipt purchase of P300 until Feb. 3, 2019.

“GrabFood sits in the same Grab app you use every day to book a ride. From the home screen, our consumers can easily choose Food from the services menu and they will get access to a variety of restaurants and food partners near their area,” added Dela Vega. ‘As we join in Sinulog’s revelry, we are celebrating not just the festival but the exciting new possibilities for GrabFood this new year.,” Dela Vega said.
