Grab Sustainable Angpows 2023

Less paper, better for the planet.

In our ideal world, all angpows would be electronic via GrabPay Credits and no paper would be needed at all. But for now, we know there is still much joy in the giving and receiving of physical angpows. So in honour of maintaining this tradition, we’ve designed a more sustainable angpow.

At about 3 times smaller than usual, this angpow uses much less material. Yet, it can still fit a $100 note. (Yes, we checked!)

This tiny design is inspired by the Chinese saying, 小小心意 (xiao xiao xin yi) , which translates to ‘here’s a (little) gift from the heart.’ It’s also the greeting you see on the angpow.

But it’s not just about the size. Our angpows are also…

FSC Recycled certified

To put it simply, no new trees were cut down just to make these angpows. All of our packaging is made from 100% recycled material, so there was no need to harvest anything more from our precious forest resources. Yay, what a re-leaf!

Printed using soy ink

No, it’s not to make the angpow tastier. Soy ink is easy to remove which makes recycling much easier. To recycle paper, it must first be free from all ink. Soy ink is also 4 times more biodegradable than traditional petroleum-based ink.

Designed for timelessness

The missing zodiacs and Gong Xi wishes were done on purpose. With no seasonal greetings, this angpow will still be relevant at weddings, birthdays, events, anything, with no yearly commitments. So you can keep passing them on and on and on and on and on…

Oh and lastly, Happy Chinese New year from all of us at Grab.
