Grab Myanmar Expands Partner Relief Fund to Provide Care Packages to Thousands of its Driver and Delivery-Partners

Yangon, Myanmar, 08 May 2020 – Grab Myanmar has stepped up its support for driver-partners and delivery-partners during the ongoing COVID-19 crisis by providing them with care packages of rice and face masks. From 4 May to 19 May 2020, thousands of Grab driver-partners and delivery-partners in Yangon and Mandalay will each receive a care package at designated collection points to bring home to their families.

Grab Myanmar established the Grab Partner Relief Fund in March by committing USD 20,000 to provide financial assistance of MMK 200,000 to any eligible driver-partner and delivery-partner who is diagnosed with COVID‑19 or officially placed into quarantine by the health authorities. To cover the costs of the care packages, Grab Myanmar injected an additional USD 20,000 into its Grab Partner Relief Fund which now amounts to a total of USD 40,000.

Eligibility for the care packages applies to all GrabFood delivery-partners who are active and working on the platform, as well as any driver-partner who has been on the Grab platform since or before December 2019 and has completed 100 rides from December 2019 to February 2020.

In order to ensure the safety of driver and delivery-partners during this time of social distancing, Grab sent a message to eligible driver and delivery-partners via the Grab application notifying them about the collection of their care package. During the collection process, organised in batches to avoid overcrowding, Grab required all driver and delivery partners to have a temperature check, wear a mask, wash their hands and ensure a safe distance of two metres when receiving their care package.

“Our driver and delivery-partners are always in our thoughts, especially now during these uncertain times. We are trying to support them and their families in different ways such as by distributing care packages,” said Cindy Toh, Country Head, Grab Myanmar.
