Grab Modernises Security Features for Benefit of Consumers, Drivers

Phnom Penh, Cambodia, 10th January 2022 – Grab, is enhancing the firm’s app security features to improve safety for local consumers and driver-partners.

Starting from January 10th 2022, all Grab users will be asked to verify themselves by taking a ‘selfie’ using the Grab app or by providing bank account details. However, consumers who already linked their credit card/debit card as a payment method while booking will not require to go through consumer verification again.  The reason for this change is to help keep Grab’s passengers and driver-partners safe as they use the platform’s services.

The new verification requirements will be introduced on a step-by-step basis with all consumers being asked to provide either a ‘selfie’ or bank account number to the Grab app from January 10th. Existing Grab users will be asked to verify themselves with the new methods when they make their first booking after January 10th. New and existing users will only be asked to verify themselves once.

The new security features will also apply to Grab driver/delivery partners.

“Safety and security has always been Grab’s priority,” said Grab Cambodia Head of Expansion Region Corentin Rouxel. “By updating and enhancing our security protocols we are hoping to reassure all Grab Users – as well as  Grab driver/delivery partners – that their safety and security are our main concern. In a day and age when ‘facial recognition’ applications are becoming the norm, we, at Grab, are also applying the best-in-class safety and security standards to our app.”

The latest changes by Grab are part of the firm’s ongoing commitment to consumers’ and Grab driver/delivery partners’ safety. Other safety features already include the “Share My Ride feature” which allows users to share details of their trips with loved ones, provision of personal accident insurance, an Emergency Button, and trip monitoring feature to enhance the safety of both driver/delivery partners and consumers and prevent them from any safety incidents.

Since Grab’s entry into Cambodia in late 2017, the firm has embarked on numerous projects with the Royal Government of Cambodia to provide safer, more efficient, and more reliable on-demand transportation services for the public, while creating better earning opportunities for Grab driver/delivery partners. The new changes are Grab’s latest to modernise and enhance the firm’s services for the public and partners alike.
