You and I know this firsthand; multiple studies have confirmed it.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Research from John Hopkins University shows that only <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/greatplacetowork.com.sg\/resource\/how-to-promote-employee-well-being-in-the-workplace-global-study\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">9% of Singaporeans experienced a high level of well-being at work<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> \u2013 around half the 17% worldwide average. Meanwhile, McKinsey reports that <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.mckinsey.com\/featured-insights\/future-of-asia\/employee-mental-health-and-burnout-in-asia-a-time-to-act\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">one in three employees in Asia are suffering from burnout<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">At a glance, the solution might sound simple. Reduce work hours and raise awareness of employee benefits \u2013 problem solved, right? Not quite.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Research by Gallup on <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.gallup.com\/workplace\/288539\/employee-burnout-biggest-myth.aspx\"><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Employee Burnout: Causes and Cures<\/span><\/i><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> revealed an interesting nuance:\u00a0 <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">how<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> employees experienced their workload has a greater effect on feeling burnout than the total number of hours worked. In fact, employees who enjoyed job flexibility were more productive \u2013 working more hours while reporting better well-being.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">How can employees who work more hours feel that they are flourishing? The answer lies in holistic well-being.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">At heart, employee well-being <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/resources.workable.com\/stories-and-insights\/employee-wellbeing-caring-for-your-people\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">encompasses<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> physical and mental health and can be shaped by dynamics both internal and external to the workplace.
