We developed our <\/span>AI<\/b> Voice Assistant <\/b>feature<\/span> with one simple mission: make it easier for more Singaporeans to book rides just by speaking. <\/span>That includes the elderly, the visually impaired, and anyone who needs a little extra help navigating the app. <\/span>(Learn more about how it works <\/span>here<\/span><\/a>.)<\/span><\/p>

But for it to really work, it first needs to understand how <\/span>Singaporeans<\/span> actually<\/span><\/i> speak.<\/span><\/p>

And since all of us pronounce our <\/span>jalans<\/span><\/i>, <\/span>lorongs<\/span><\/i>, and even <\/span>\u2018atas\u2019<\/span><\/i> condo names a little differently, we\u2019ll have to train our <\/span>AI <\/span>Voice Assistant with a lot of <\/span>pronunciations. We are! Since the start of 2025, we\u2019ve rallied our colleagues and collected over 80,000 voice samples of location names in Singapore. But here\u2019s the thing\u2014it\u2019s still not enough.<\/span><\/p>

We\u2019ve even brought AI into the mix to help. (Yes, we\u2019re training AI with AI!) But that, too, has its limits. Most existing data doesn\u2019t fully account for how we speak in Singapore\u2014our accents, tones, and the unique ways we say local place names.<\/span><\/p>
