Currently in its public pilot phase, Grab AI Call-A-Ride (Beta) is designed especially for seniors and others who might find mobile apps challenging or inconvenient to use. Calling a phone number instead of navigating the app may offer a more intuitive and familiar experience.<\/p>

How it works<\/h5>

The user starts by calling the Grab AI Call-A-Ride (Beta) number. An AI-powered voice assistant will guide them through the booking step-by-step. The user will be asked to provide ride details such as their pickup location, drop-off destination and preferred ride type.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

Developed in collaboration with OpenAI and powered by its Realtime Voice model,\u00a0Grab AI Call-A-Ride (Beta)\u00a0integrates Grab\u2019s proprietary speech technologies and hyper-local data. The voice assistant is able to engage in fluid reasoning. It can interpret intent, maintain context, adapt mid-sentence, and process bookings unlike traditional automated call services. The solution is currently optimised for English and Chinese, with plans to expand to more regional languages.<\/p>

A more accessible way to book rides<\/h5>

To ensure Grab AI Call-A-Ride (Beta) is intuitive and easy to use, we conducted extensive user testing with various demographic groups prior to the public pilot launch. Grab partnered with grassroots digital inclusion initiatives to invite participants to test the solution, including at seniors’ digital literacy workshops organised by the Infocomm Media Development Authority (IMDA)\u2019s SG Digital Office (SDO) and by Temasek at its Community Day 2026.<\/p>

This helped us refine the feature, ensuring it caters to their needs<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

One big issue we tackled was interruptions during hotline calls. Previous systems weren\u2019t smart enough to detect when users were still speaking so it kept cutting them off. This created a frustrating experience for users. The updated Grab AI Call-A-Ride (Beta) system fixes this, allowing for smoother conversations.\u00a0<\/p>

We also fixed a common challenge for voice-based AI: background noise. It can drown out the user\u2019s voice and confuse the system. To address this, we developed a voiceprint solution, where over multiple call interactions with a user, the AI gets better at isolating and “locking” into the user\u2019s unique voice as well as filtering out background audio.<\/p>

Finally, the post-booking messages needed an upgrade. They weren\u2019t giving users enough useful info after booking a ride. Now, we\u2019ve added the right details, plus a handy “Track My Ride” link so users can follow their ride in real-time.\u00a0<\/p>

Throughout the pilot phase we will continue to collect feedback to ensure it becomes even more intuitive, accessible, and easy to use.<\/p>

Expanding accessibility for all users<\/h5>

Grab AI Call-A-Ride (Beta) builds upon the technical foundations of Grab\u2019s Voice Assistant for the Visually Impaired, which was launched in 2025 to enable voice navigation of the Grab app interface for low-vision users.<\/p>
