People are sharing rides with one another to save on fares, especially when they’re headed home after work, a gathering or planning to arrive at a venue together.<\/p>

So we launched Group Ride, a way for you to invite friends, colleagues or anyone else from your community to join a ride, add a stop and split the bill.\u00a0<\/p>

Built for everyday commutes, nights out or even family outings, Group Ride is currently available in most major cities across Southeast Asia, including Singapore, Metro Manila, Bangkok, Kuala Lumpur, Jakarta (under Grab\u2019s Early Access Program, wider roll-out coming soon), and in Vietnam in the third quarter of the year.<\/p>

Setting up a Group Ride\u00a0<\/h5>

To get started, set up a Group Ride by tapping the widget on the transport page homepage. The host can choose among the following options:<\/p>

  • Leaving from the same pickup point and dropping off people along the way; or<\/li>
  • Picking up people along the way to arrive at the same dropoff point\u00a0<\/li><\/ul>

    Pro tip: Use Group Ride even if you\u2019re leaving from the same place and heading to the same destination with others. It\u2019ll make bill splitting a breeze.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

    Next, the host passenger inputs the first pickup and drop-off points of the trip and invites others to the ride by sharing the link through their preferred messaging platforms.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

    Grab\u2019s AI sequences the entire trip intelligently to be most efficient, and each passenger’s fare is calculated based on factors such as the distance they travel, as well as traffic conditions and time taken on their route.<\/p>

    Building on user feedback\u00a0<\/h5>

    The initial Group Ride feature was built on top of our existing multi-stop rides capability, which allowed a single booking to include multiple drop-offs. That approach introduced limitations: only the person who made the booking could manage the ride, fellow passengers couldn\u2019t view or track their own routes, and the host was left to split the bill and awkwardly collect payments from others later.<\/p>

    That\u2019s what led to the current version of Group Ride, designed to eliminate those pain points and make everyday group travel smoother.<\/p>

    We’re working on making this experience even more convenient and collaborative soon. In the next iteration, users can look forward to more updates such as managing communication within the Grab app.\u00a0<\/p>

    We hope that this feature can give more people access to safe and reliable transport options.
