We at Grab believe that people can achieve a positive impact on their environment\u2014when they take small steps in the right direction, together.<\/p>

Through a feature called “Green Programme<\/a>“, a toggle in the Grab app, we empower everyday users to make voluntary contributions with each ride and delivery they book on Grab, supporting the environmental projects across the region to restore important ecosystems and avoid carbon emissions. By connecting platform activity with trusted environmental partners, we\u2019re turning simple choices into long-term impact.<\/p>

Ecosystem restoration in Vietnam<\/h5>

Following up on last year’s tree planting efforts in Nui Chua National Park (a UNESCO-certified biosphere reserve), Thuan Nam Forest, and protected forests near Tan Giang Lake, our Green Programme in Vietnam continues planting an additional 100,000 trees across several regions in 2025. This year, the planting will focus primarily on Tan Giang-Thuan Nam protection forests in Khanh Hoa province and Phu Ninh Reservoir protection forest in Da Nang City, helping to expand forest cover, protect groundwater resources, and prevent soil erosion in the area.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

The implementation was handled by our long-term partner, the Song Foundation, which focuses on reforestation and watershed restoration, as well as government stakeholders.\u00a0<\/p>

Each restoration project starts with a careful assessment of soil type, slope, and historical vegetation. Based on this, Song Foundation selects a diverse mix of native and climate-resilient trees that can thrive in local conditions.\u00a0<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

Community involvement is at the heart of the process. Local residents are hired and trained to plant and care for the trees, ensuring they grow into healthy forests that provide long-term benefits to both people and nature.<\/p>

Monitoring continues for at least five years, tracking survival rates, growth patterns, and canopy density. The Foundation\u2019s five-year vision focuses on soil regeneration and seedling survival; its ten-year vision aims for full canopy closure, biodiversity return, and stable watershed function\u2014clear signs that an ecosystem has regained its natural balance.<\/p>

Song Foundation\u2019s work is closely coordinated with local Forest Protection Boards and the Departments of Agriculture and Environment in Khanh Hoa province and Da Nang City, ensuring each project aligns with regional climate adaptation and conservation goals. The Foundation also collaborates with research partners to study forest recovery, compiling field data into reports and academic publications that inform better restoration practices nationwide. These findings will not only strengthen Song Foundation\u2019s future work but also contribute to Vietnam\u2019s broader knowledge base on ecosystem restoration under changing climate conditions.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

Expanding the impact: From forests to homes<\/h5>

A new addition to Grab\u2019s Green Programme in Vietnam in 2025 is an initiative called Vietnam Energy Efficiency Program and\u00a0 Improved Cookstoves for Climate and Community Action, developed by INTRACO, a Vietnamese social enterprise promoting green technology.<\/p>

This extends the impact of Grab users\u2019 contributions into homes and daily life.<\/p>

INTRACO helped install more than 210,000 improved cookstoves in local households, replacing traditional wood cookstoves that require the burning of significant amounts of wood and results in families facing poor air quality. In addition, INTRACO has replaced 6 million incandescent bulbs with energy-efficient LEDs in rural and remote areas.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

These upgrades measurably reduce carbon emissions, improve indoor air quality, and lower household energy costs. INTRACO\u2019s programmes are certified by VERRA, a non-profit organisation that manages the Verified Carbon Standard (VCS), one of the widely-used global standards for certifying voluntary greenhouse gas emission reduction and removal.<\/p>

Turning everyday actions into a greener future<\/h5>

Our Green Programme makes it easy for users to join the movement, whether they\u2019re based in Vietnam or elsewhere in Grab\u2019s operating countries. The funds directly support local efforts in each country, as well as some regional projects such as Keo Seima Wildlife Sanctuary REDD+ Project in Cambodia, a large-scale conservation project that safeguards over 290,000 hectares of forest and the wildlife that calls it home.<\/p>

Participation can be enabled directly in the Grab app through various access points, for example by toggling on the Green Programme Contribution option while booking a ride. It can be turned off anytime<\/p>

Individual contributions are small. In Vietnam, for example Grab users can contribute VND 2,000 (USD 0.08) per GrabCar trip or VND 1,000 (USD 0.04) per GrabBike, GrabFood, or GrabMart order.<\/p>

Each small act adds up, and at scale, these contributions help our partners fund their important reforestation, clean energy, and conservation projects, proving that restoring nature and supporting communities can go hand in hand.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t
