How we launched the GrabRewards virtual stamp card in just two weeks

When we launched our GrabRewards Stamp Card program, which gives weekly rewards to Platinum and Gold members based on their GrabPay usage, we did not have an easy way for users to view their weekly progress and status.

After receiving feedback from our most our trailblazing users, we responded quickly and came up with an in-app Stamp Card, which we rolled out in Singapore on Nov 28. It was a lot of work – ideation, design, development, testing and execution – but our team was able to deliver a full product in just two weeks.

How did we do it?

As Southeast Asia’s everyday app, Grab has invested in building a scalable content management system (CMS) that empowers non-engineers to create the widgets you can now see in your feed.

Since its inception, this CMS that we lovingly refer to as the Widget Factory, has been the platform that has empowered us to build dozens of widgets ranging from deals, news, games, events and much more.

To quickly produce a Stamp Card widget for the app, the working team leveraged an existing template within the Widget Factory, and an ability to bring together a number of internal processes easily and seamlessly. Much time and effort were saved as these resources were already in place, with clear and robust protocols.

Now that the widget is up in Singapore, we are working to roll it out to more countries and verticals as soon as possible.

There’s good synergy with other rewards and loyalty programs too, such as LiveUp and SCORE. That’s why we are considering the same approach to help users better visualise their progress on these programs.

Komsan Chiyadis

GrabFood delivery-partner, Thailand

Komsan Chiyadis

GrabFood delivery-partner, Thailand

COVID-19 has dealt an unprecedented blow to the tourism industry, affecting the livelihoods of millions of workers. One of them was Komsan, an assistant chef in a luxury hotel based in the Srinakarin area.

As the number of tourists at the hotel plunged, he decided to sign up as a GrabFood delivery-partner to earn an alternative income. Soon after, the hotel ceased operations.

Komsan has viewed this change through an optimistic lens, calling it the perfect opportunity for him to embark on a fresh journey after his previous job. Aside from GrabFood deliveries, he now also picks up GrabExpress jobs. It can get tiring, having to shuttle between different locations, but Komsan finds it exciting. And mostly, he’s glad to get his income back on track.
