Celebrating occasions and supporting gifting through technology

During this pandemic, how have you learnt to bridge distances between you and your loved ones? As we navigate the world right now from the comforts of our own home, we learn to be there for one another through different ways. Even if we don’t meet up as often, friendships, love and special events can be celebrated with a message, on social media, via video calls, sending food and bestowing gifts.

In fact, this was supported by the surge in sales of flowers and chocolates during Valentine’s, as well as hampers and gift sets during Mother’s Day on our platform. According to Think with Google, “online gift cards” saw a search increase of more than 100% globally. The demand for connection via gifts is here as long as we’re still finding a way to go back to the new normal, but GrabGifts is here to bridge distances.

And now, it’s even easier to personalise your gifts to your loved ones.

Gifting made easier and more personalised
GrabGifts has introduced a new gifting platform to make it even easier for one to send a gift to their loved ones. Here’s a quick journey through the GrabGifts section on the Grab app, so you can find your way through it the next time you’re thinking of someone.

  1. Access the “Gifts” tab on your Grab app, before selecting the person you’d like to gift this to
  2. Select the country where your recipient is located. Choose from GrabFood, GrabMart, GrabExpress or Grab Rides as gift options. You may select and offer up to 3 options in the same transaction for your recipient to choose one final gift from.
  3. Select your gift value
  4. Write a message, and choose a virtual card design
  5. Make the payment, and off it goes to your recipient!

Send gifts to overseas friends and families
The GrabGifts service is not just limited within Singapore. For those of us with friends and family overseas, the service works in countries that have GrabGifts capabilities enabled. While the pandemic may have separated people physically, technology is keeping up to help us stay connected to our loved ones in various ways. GrabGifts is a wonderful reminder of that. Have someone in mind while reading this? Go on and open your Grab app to send a gift to your friends and family right now!

COVID-19 has dealt an unprecedented blow to the tourism industry, affecting the livelihoods of millions of workers. One of them was Komsan, an assistant chef in a luxury hotel based in the Srinakarin area.

As the number of tourists at the hotel plunged, he decided to sign up as a GrabFood delivery-partner to earn an alternative income. Soon after, the hotel ceased operations.

Komsan has viewed this change through an optimistic lens, calling it the perfect opportunity for him to embark on a fresh journey after his previous job. Aside from GrabFood deliveries, he now also picks up GrabExpress jobs. It can get tiring, having to shuttle between different locations, but Komsan finds it exciting. And mostly, he’s glad to get his income back on track.
