With the weather being unpredictable this time of the year, some of us might find ourselves driving in <\/span>bad weather<\/span>\u00a0such as heavy rain or thunderstorms.<\/span><\/p>\n

When this happens, it\u2019s really important for drivers to know what to do. To help you prepare for these kinds of scenarios, here are a few <\/span>simple pointers <\/span>to keep in mind!<\/span><\/p>\n

1. Be cautious<\/span> \ud83d\udc40<\/p>\n

When you\u2019re driving in a downpour especially one with strong wind, pay extra attention to your surroundings.<\/span><\/p>\n

Look out<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>for debris that might be lying around like <\/span>broken tree branches <\/span>or <\/span>garbage waste<\/span>s. <\/span>Chances are these things are carried by the strong wind and <\/span>ended<\/span>\u00a0up on the road. Drive around them slowly but check your side mirrors for cars first before doing so!<\/span><\/p>\n

2. Slow down<\/span> \ud83d\udc22<\/p>\n

The <\/span>slow and <\/span>steady<\/span>\u00a0gets<\/span>\u00a0through bad weathers safely! When you\u2019re caught in a heavy rain, it\u2019s never a good idea to speed as cars tend to skid in these situations.<\/span><\/p>\n

If you see <\/span>puddles<\/span>, do <\/span>avoid <\/span>them. Puddles are typically deeper than how they appear to be. On top of that, keep a <\/span>good distance <\/span>between you and the car in front. This way you\u2019ll have room to stop in case the car ahead makes an emergency brake.<\/span><\/p>\n

3. Find middle ground<\/span> \ud83d\udee3\ufe0f<\/p>\n

If you\u2019re on the <\/span>highway<\/span>, you might notice that the left and right lanes will usually be flooded during rain. This is because these lanes are typically built lower than the middle one.<\/span><\/p>\n

Do stick with the<\/span>\u00a0middle lane<\/span>\u00a0when driving while it\u2019s pouring to stay away from all those pesky puddles!<\/span><\/p>\n

4. Lights on<\/span> \ud83d\udca1<\/p>\n

Besides seeing other cars, your car also needs to be seen! Stuck in a downpour where visibility is limited? Don\u2019t forget to turn on your <\/span>headlights <\/span>so that other road users can see you.<\/span><\/p>\n

However, <\/span>don\u2019t turn on<\/span>\u00a0your <\/span>hazard lights<\/span>! These lights indicate that your vehicle has stopped and this might confuse other drivers on the road. It\u2019s dangerous too, as you won\u2019t be able to indicate if you\u2019re changing lanes.<\/span><\/p>\n

Last but not least, if the weather\u2019s too dangerous for you to drive, do <\/span>pull over<\/span>\u00a0at the nearest R&R or petrol station and wait it out. Remember, your loved ones are waiting at home!<\/span> \u2764\ufe0f<\/p>\n
