Road safety is no laughing matter, especially when most active full-time and part-time Grab driver-partners spend an average of 5 hours on the road daily.<\/span><\/p>\n

According to the Global Status Report on Road Safety 2018 by World Health Organization (WHO), the global rate of road traffic death is 18.2 per 100,000 population. Specifically in South-East Asia, it\u2019s 20.7 deaths per 100,000 population which is the second highest region worldwide. <\/span><\/p>\n

Therefore, this new year if you have yet to make safety your new year\u2019s resolution while driving for Grab, you should! Being a safe driver will always be trendy at Grab because we value the safety of both driver-partners and passengers. <\/span><\/p>\n

Here are some resolutions to be safer on the road.<\/span><\/p>\n

Be aware of your surroundings; use your signals and car mirrors<\/span>
\n<\/span>Most of the time you\u2019re not the only motorist on the road, so please make sure the coast is clear before you change lanes. Don\u2019t forget to use signals to indicate that you\u2019re about to do so, it\u2019s much safer to not assume the other motorist around you know where or when you want to change lanes. <\/span><\/p>\n

Buckle up<\/span>
\n<\/span>This should be the very first thing you do when you get into your car. According to the recently released Global status report on road safety, wearing a seat-belt reduces the risk of death among drivers and front seat occupants by 45\u201350%, and the risk of death and serious injuries among rear seat occupants by 25%.<\/span><\/p>\n

Keep to the speed limit<\/span>
\n<\/span>Did you know that speeding is the biggest factor in roughly one-third of fatal car accidents? There is a reason to the implementation of a speed limit; it\u2019s more difficult to control a speeding vehicle. Additionally, following the speed limit will help prevent getting speeding summons too.<\/span><\/p>\n

Only Go on green<\/span>
\n<\/span>It\u2019s against the law to beat the red light, but what\u2019s worse than breaking the law is that you might seriously harm others and even your ownself. People always say that time is money so we tend to rush to arrive at a destination quicker, but it\u2019s not worth risking your life and the lives of others. Always remember that the yellow blinking light means slow down, not drive faster.<\/span><\/p>\n

Share My Location Button<\/span><\/p>\n

T<\/span>he new Share My Location Button will provide a sense of security for driver-partners. It allows driver-partners to share their location <\/span>via 3rd party apps <\/span>through \u201cSend Link\u201d and\/or \u201cSMS Emergency Contacts\u201d. For more serious cases, driver-partners will be able to call authorities with the \u201cCall Police\u201d option. Click here<\/a> to read more on how to set up your emergency contacts and how to use this new button in your driver app in times of emergency. <\/span><\/p>\n

Voice Over Internet Protocol (VOIP)* Feature<\/span><\/p>\n

The new feature, Voice Over Internet Protocol (VOIP) has not one, but two great benefits! Driver-partners can contact their passengers via Internet\/Data during In-Transit jobs. To use this feature, driver-partners only need to have their mobile data turned on. On top of that, it protects your privacy from passengers as your number is not shown when a call is made using the VOIP feature. <\/span><\/p>\n

*Note: This feature will only be available if the passenger has updated their app to the latest version. Otherwise, normal calls via Number Masking will be placed and usual charges will be incurred.<\/span><\/em><\/p>\n
